ULSAN wins his second TEKKEN 8 EWC trophy

After an action-packed span of four days, the Korean contestant claimed victory following a tough competition. In both group stages and playoffs, ULSAN managed to outperform formidable rivals such as Arslan Ash, who was crowned Evo 2025 Champion, and Rangchu, the TWT 2024 winner.

In the intense TEKKEN 8 competition this season, ULSAN didn’t make as big a splash at the top level as he did in 2024. He entered fewer tournaments, which resulted in fewer high-ranking positions. Despite his reduced participation in 2025, due to his victory at the TEKKEN 8 Esports World Cup 2024, ULSAN was still regarded as a strong contender for the EWC 2025, and rightfully so.

During the initial stage of the competition, team DN Freecs from Ulsan found themselves paired alongside the renowned JDCR and the present Tekken World Tour Champion, Rangchu. The encounters between the two teams were tight-knit, but ultimately, ULSAN emerged victorious and moved forward to the subsequent round.

In simpler terms, his following obstacle was Kkokkoma’s Feng, who placed ULSAN in the loser’s bracket. There could be no mistakes, as ULSAN had to beat Arslan Ash directly to overcome Kkokkoma.

In the TEKKEN 8 EWC 2025 playoffs, ULSAN thoroughly outplayed PINYA, CBM, and LowHigh. The extended Ft5 (first-to-five) format seems to favor his playing style, as he secured five wins against two losses in every match, ultimately claiming the TEKKEN 8 Esports World Cup 2025 trophy.

Dragunov on top again

Significant shifts have occurred in TEKKEN 8’s competitive landscape compared to the last Esports World Cup. New characters have been introduced, game balances have been fine-tuned, and several Downloadable Content (DLC) characters have found their way to top rankings.

  • Anna couldn’t take ATIF and Arslan Ash to the playoffs, but JeonDDing looked strong with her in the 3rd place match.

  • Heihachi — One player was on this powerful classic: qudans reached the top 8 with Heihachi Mishima.

As for character loyalists, we could see a few at the TEKKEN 8 Esports World Cup 2025. 

  • LowHigh and Knee were on Bryan.
  • Rangchu played Kuma/Panda.

In 2024, ULSAN joined the ranks of loyalists by playing the popular character, Dragunov, in TEKKEN 8. This was a highly-favored period within the community. At the EWC 2025, he continued to demonstrate his skills with Dragunov, ultimately emerging victorious and winning the tournament with this character.

Korea dominates the TEKKEN 8 Esports World Cup 2025

In the upcoming Tekken 8 tournament at EWC 2025, eight talented players qualified, six of whom are from South Korea. Interestingly, among the remaining two, Chikurin and PINYA hail from Japan.

In this tournament, there are 16 competitors, and among them, ATIF and Arslan Ash are two notable players hailing from Pakistan. The remaining twelve contestants are from South Korea.

In the lower positions, you’ll find various countries and regions represented. The sheer dominance of South Korea at the elite level of TEKKEN 8 esports is truly awe-inspiring.

At the bottom end of the rankings, other nations and regions make their appearance. South Korea’s dominance in the top echelons of TEKKEN 8 esports is nothing short of remarkable.

Following this win, ULSAN can now concentrate on the TEKKEN World Tour 2025 qualifying series, given that he is placed 5th globally on the leaderboard. This positions ULSAN favorably for potential participation in the TWT 2025 Finals event.
