Excited Australian fans of Snoop Dogg cheered up on Tuesday, as they learned that the renowned rapper is scheduled to headline the AFL Grand Final taking place in Melbourne in the year 2025.
Iconic artist Snoop Dogg, famous for tracks like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Sensual Seduction,” will take the stage before an audience of 100,000 people at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the 27th of September this year.
He expressed great joy about performing at the Australian Football League Grand Final, a highly significant occasion on Australia’s annual calendar, referring to his eagerly awaited performance that has previously been graced by artists like Katy Perry and Kiss.
‘Can’t wait to bring the energy and celebrate with the fans.’
Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that despite his current fame, the musician had been previously barred from entering Australia due to a failure to comply with visa character stipulations.
2007 saw a 53-year-old celebrity gearing up for a performance at the MTV Australian Music Video Awards in Sydney, only to be barred from entering the venue.
As a die-hard devotee, I find myself deeply affected by the fact that my idol, Snoop, has been barred from setting foot in a certain nation following his conviction for drug and weapons charges within the U.S. boundaries. It’s like being starved of the sunshine when the sun is shining brightly elsewhere.
Back in April 2007, he didn’t admit nor deny gun and drug allegations in a court in Los Angeles, instead opting for a plea deal. As part of this agreement, he received five years of probation and was required to perform 800 hours of community service.
However, Snoop’s multiple run-ins with the law started long before.
Right after acing my high school diploma in ’89, life took an unexpected turn when I found myself slapped with a cocaine possession charge – yikes! A year rolled by, and I was officially convicted for felony drug possession and attempting to peddle drugs, as reported by The Age. Needless to say, those were some tough times for this die-hard fan of clean living!
Back then, I couldn’t get enough of Snoop Dogg’s music, but the headlines about him kept popping up. Seems like from the late ’90s to mid-2000s, he was often in trouble with the law, mostly for drug and gun charges.
Due to Snoop’s involvement in legal issues back in 2007, his application for a visa to enter Australia was ultimately rejected.
A year following the ban’s removal, the celebrity gave a series of memorable concerts nationwide, such as his I Wanna Thank Me tour in 2023 and his main-act appearance at the Big Day Out festival in 2014.
However, it calls into question: who else has had a hard time visiting Aussie shores?
Kanye West

On May 8, the song titled “Heil Hitler” was released by the artist. This song sparked controversy as it was perceived to be encouraging or promoting Nazism.
Due to certain changes, the officials decided to upgrade West’s lower-level visa status, ultimately leading to its cancellation instead.
For quite some time, this individual has been visiting Australia. He has relatives residing here, and there have been instances where his remarks were disrespectful. These comments were re-examined by my team.

The visa wasn’t intended for performances, but rather a less prominent one. Even after considering the regulations, the authorities expressed concerns, stating that your songs might propagate Nazi ideology, which is not welcome in Australia.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
In 2015, the Australian immigration authorities declined to issue Floyd Mayweather Jr. a visa, which prevented him from entering Australia.
A call for action was initiated on change.org, aiming to prevent his entry into the country due to allegations of past domestic violence incidents.
Mayweather was jailed in 2012 for an attack on his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris.
He spent two out of the three months of his prison term, which he received for an incident involving him pulling hair and twisting arms against his ex-lover. This occurred while their two out of three shared children looked on.
The protest spearheaded by Angela Burrows, as expressed in their statement, said: ‘His attacks are disturbing to learn of.’
Permitting a repeated offender of violence such as Floyd Mayweather to come to Australia suggests a worrying narrative – one that tacitly endorses severe, habitual mistreatment.
It is believed that Mayweather is still banned from Australia.
Novak Djokovic
On the brink of the 2022 Australian Open, Novak Djokovic was asked to leave Melbourne due to violations of their COVID-19 regulations.
When Australia enforced restrictions on entry for unvaccinated individuals, the government deemed his medical exception to the vaccination mandate as invalid, consequently cancelling his visa.
In simpler terms, the well-known Serbian tennis player faced an 11-day struggle to keep his visa, a situation that didn’t turn out in his favor. However, this contentious court ruling ignited anger amongst his supporters.
In simpler terms, if someone is deported from Australia, they will not be allowed to enter the country for a period of three years.
The former Minister for Home Affairs, Karen Andrews – a significant player in implementing the ban – stated previously that the government ought to adhere to the regulations and not reconsider his case.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but express my sentiments: It would be nothing short of a insult to those who followed the rules in Australia, if, out of nowhere, Novak Djokovic is granted re-entry into the country, solely due to his esteemed status as a top-ranking tennis player and his substantial wealth. I voiced this opinion on ABC.

Throughout the appeal, Skepta claimed that he had experienced significant personal growth, both emotionally and spiritually, following the event.
In addition, it was revealed that the individual injured by Skepta in 2016 agreed to attend Skepta’s concert and even accepted an invitation for a face-to-face meeting and greet with the rapper. This encounter allowed Skepta the chance to personally apologize for his past actions.
In 2018, after a two-week wait, the decision to ban him was reversed, allowing him to perform shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.
