Survivor host Jonathan LaPaglia reveals the brutal way he found out he had lost his job after a decade on the show: ‘I didn’t even get a direct call’

Jonathan LaPaglia shocked fans in June when he confirmed he had been axed from Australian Survivor.

The television host, who’s been running Channel Ten’s series for close to a decade, garnered a wave of encouragement when he announced his final appearance in the Australia V The World series, set to air on our screens towards the end of this year.

Now, the 55-year-old has detailed the brutal way he found out he had lost his job.

He informed The Daily Telegraph that contrary to what was being discussed online, it wasn’t an email he received but rather a call made to his manager in Australia.

‘I didn’t get a direct call, which, I’ll be honest with you, was disappointing.

It’s been 10 years since I’ve led our main program, and it would have been pleasant to receive a personal call from higher-ups about it, but that didn’t happen.

It came to light recently that filming for the 2026 season has already begun, and David Genat is stepping in as the fresh face hosting the program.

David has been seen arriving abroad to start shooting the new season, however, backstage issues are reportedly still unresolved.

For about ten years, Jonathan led a popular reality TV series before being abruptly let go without any fanfare.

According to some sources, it’s speculated that the show’s surprising new theme, ‘Revenge and Redemption,’ could be a subtle reference to his abrupt departure.

‘Jonathan is gutted,’ a friend of the ousted host told Daily Mail Australia.

‘This theme feels personal. Everyone in the Survivor community can see it for what it is.’

The TV producers have switched out the popular host for David, a past participant, whose sudden elevation to the role has caused controversy among viewers and left the crew in a state of puzzlement.

‘It’s a cost-cutting move, plain and simple,’ a source close to production revealed.

‘But replacing a seasoned host with a player who’s barely earned his stripes? It’s baffling.’

As a devoted fan, I can confirm that this intriguing series shines a light on castaways who have faced betrayal, deception, or unexpected twists in their lives. From what I’ve gathered, the drama unfolds not only on-screen but also behind the scenes, making it an engrossing watch.

‘Jonathan is furious,’ one producer confessed.

As a loyal devotee, I’ve been reaching out personally to former teammates, not merely to bid farewell but to express my feelings. Truth be told, I was taken aback, and I haven’t tried to hide that fact.
