Paloma Faith expresses sympathy and solidarity towards Anne-Marie, a fellow musician who recently became a mother, as she shares her struggles with post-natal depression.
The popular singer, aged 34, who is also a mother to an 18-month-old daughter with her rapper spouse Slowthai, gave birth to a baby boy in May. On Friday, she shared on Instagram a sneak peek of her upcoming song named “Depression,” which she revealed was influenced by her current emotional state.
In the studio, Anne-Marie sat with an effortless style, debuting her new song while sharing with her audience that it was the first time in eight months she had applied makeup.
The song goes, ‘It’s strange because I seem okay, but I’m actually depressed. On the outside, I look great, but on the inside, I’m a disaster. Somehow, I think I’ve become resistant to happiness.’
Isn’t it ironic that I yearn for courage, yet find fear even in the simple act of getting dressed and stepping outdoors? I claim to be okay and fine, joking being my defense mechanism, but the truth is, if I don’t laugh, I might just cry.
It seems strange that I crave bravery while battling fear at the thought of leaving the house. I pretend to be all right, saying I’m fine, even though jokes are the only thing keeping tears at bay.
A flurry of supporters flooded the comments section, with Paloma, aged 44 and mother of two daughters with ex-partner Leyman Lahcine, encouraging, “Hang in there, sweetheart. I battled postpartum depression for two years after both pregnancies.

Last month, Anne-Marie admitted that her thoughts have been scattered over the past two years, but expressed gratitude towards her family for helping her overcome her mental challenges.
After giving birth to her child, Seven, the celebrity disclosed that she had struggled with both postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety.
Approximately 20% of women and 10% of men may experience mental health issues like depression or anxiety during pregnancy or within a year after giving birth.
Around one out of every five pregnant women and one out of ten new fathers could face mental health challenges, including depression and anxiety, during pregnancy or in the initial year post-delivery.
In May, Ann-Marie shared on Instagram that her son had been born, expressing joyfully: “Yet another lovely addition has joined our family – Hello, everyone!
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I couldn’t help but share a heartwarming photo of the latest addition to my family, nestled snugly in a cuddly teddy bear-themed blanket and matching hat. It’s a sight that instantly melts your heart!
In a casual, laid-back manner, Anne-Marie posted some backstage photos during labor, capturing a moment where she playfully showed off her baby bump while posing on all fours, wearing a white bralette and brown jogging pants.
As she took her last pregnant selfie, the star carefully tucked her hair behind her ears, creating striking braids that stood out.
While capturing her last pregnancy selfie, the celebrity skillfully arranged her hair in eye-catching red braids, ensuring it didn’t obstruct her view.
Anne-Marie appeared to enjoy her hospital visit, as she shared photos of her meals on social media. These included a burger with fries, soup, salmon, and a slice of chocolate cake.

Approximately a few weeks ago, she announced that she was expecting a baby boy, celebrating at a baby shower surrounded by the Capital Breakfast crew.
As a devoted fan, I can share that the celebrity, playfully mentioning her son’s name, disclosed her intention to conclude her family journey with her second child. The unique part? She’ll be blessed with a daughter and a son.
During the conversation about her pregnancy, host Sian Welby inquired, “What are you expecting?” To which Anne-Marie replied, “Yes.
Sian added: ‘Oh Okay, we’ll try not let you slip up then.’
Nevertheless, the excited mother-to-be happily went along with an unplanned gender reveal, as she joyfully announced the arrival of a baby boy.
Sian replied with enthusiasm, ‘That’s really exciting!’ as Chris Stark questioned, ‘One of each, then?’ and Anne-Marie affirmed, ‘Yes, that’s what I plan to do, and I’ll be all set.’
Inquiring about her choice, Sian wondered aloud, “Is it more challenging to select a name for your children or for your albums?
Anne-Marie suggested that given how unusual the name ‘Seven’ is, it wouldn’t be fitting to simply refer to him as ‘Barry.’
2020 found me courageously sharing my personal journey with postnatal depression and the challenges I faced in embracing motherhood. It wasn’t easy, but speaking up helped me navigate those tough times.
The singer thought she would naturally embrace motherhood, comparing it to a duck gliding smoothly on water. However, the actual experience turned out to be quite an eye-opening surprise for her.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share my heartfelt experience. I confided in The Mirror, “After welcoming my baby into the world, a series of misfortunes unfolded. My spirits sank lower than they’ve ever been, leaving me with an overwhelming sense of being shattered. It was the crushing weight of not becoming the mother I envisioned myself to be that left me feeling so broken.
Through an interview, the singer known for “Picking Up the Pieces” shared that forming a connection with her child, whom she and her partner Leyman Lahcine conceived through IVF, took some time to establish.
She became incredibly worried, wondering if perhaps she had given birth to someone else’s child due to a potential mistake at the fertility clinic during the IVF process.
Paloma explained that she initially reached out to doctors by writing emails asking, ‘Could it be possible that the incorrect embryo was implanted in me?’ However, now it’s clear that our child bears a strong resemblance to us.
