The upcoming reboot of “Masters of the Universe” is scheduled for release in 2026 and boasts an impressive cast. Nicholas Galitzine portrays Prince Adam, also known as He-Man, contrasting sharply with the Barbie depiction. Joining him are Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms. Now, we can also confirm that Kristen Wiig has joined the cast, though her role remains a surprise at this point.
According to THR, Wiig will join the cast of “Masters of the Universe” as Roboto, the mechanical combatant with a see-through body that exposes intricate workings such as gears and components. Man-at-Arms constructed Roboto, and they often fight side by side as part of the series’ Heroic Warriors. Notably, Roboto can swap out its arm weaponry, replacing it with tools like a claw, axe, or laser gun.
In the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie, there’s an interesting twist as Roboto is being voiced by a female actor instead of the usual male voiceovers. Previously, characters like Alan Oppenheimer, Michael Donovan, and Justin Long lent their voices to Roboto in the 1980s animated TV show, the 2002 series, and “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” respectively, which you can access with a Netflix subscription.
Because “Masters of the Universe” completed filming in June and is now undergoing post-production, we’ll only get to hear Kristen Wiig voicing Roboto instead of seeing her act out the character using motion capture. It came as a surprise to me that Wiig was involved with this science fiction and fantasy blockbuster at all, not to mention that she’d be providing the voice for a transparent robot. However, Wiig has previously lent her voice to notable animated films like the “How to Train Your Dragon” series, the “Despicable Me” movies, and “Her”.
