The television series “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” has recently been added to the 2025 schedule, and within its first two episodes, it’s already delivering much of what makes “Outlander” exceptional. We’re already immersed in the romantic tales of Ellen and Brian (Jamie’s future parents) and Julia and Henry (Claire’s parents), and we’ve been given a taste of men in kilts, intense battle sequences, and political intrigue. Yet, as the prequel maintains a significant element from its parent show, I find myself growing anxious about one particular couple.
Which Part Of Outlander Will Blood Of My Blood Continue?
The debut of “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” boasted captivating opening credits, complete with a freshly composed theme song that harmoniously echoes the show’s realm, and cleverly revised franchise lore by suggesting that Claire’s parents didn’t perish when she was young but were instead hurled through time by those same enigmatic Craigh na Dun stones.
In an interview with Paste Magazine, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts shared insights on the initial two-episode setup of the show – the first delving into Jamie’s parents’ story, while the second provided a glimpse into Claire’s family’s background. He further explained that the series will occasionally revisit the World War I era experienced by Julia and Henry through flashbacks.
In a more conversational style: The scenes with Henry and Julia are intriguing because they’re frequent yet swiftly move through time. I find myself wanting to revisit those moments often. Also, to maintain the element of time travel essential to the Outlander series, we should include it in this show as well. The flashbacks with Henry and Julia will serve that purpose effectively, keeping the time-travel aspect vibrant throughout the storyline.
In the 1700s, the married couple who vanished in the late 1900s and were expecting their second child now find themselves among influential figures like MacKenzies, Frasers, Grants, and other key Scottish players. The only way to incorporate a time-travel element into the series is by having the displaced pair recall their past experiences from their original time period – the early 1900s. Roberts confirms that the perspectives of this timeline will persist.
Throughout the series, we’ll consistently portray their past love story as a crucial aspect of their development. We do this so you can witness how their bond deepens, understand what makes their love so resilient, and why they find themselves drawn back to each other. This is significant for both the characters and the viewers, as it sheds light on the factors that bind them together.
It seems quite promising, doesn’t it? We can expect insights into their early married life, perhaps some sweet moments with their daughter Claire, and even the possible causes for their trip to Scotland. However, Roberts mentioning that the romantic drama will persist throughout the series has raised some concerns about Julia and Henry’s relationship.
What Might The Flashbacks Mean For Julia And Henry Going Forward?
It seems I’ve previously speculated that Julia may have given birth to her child in the past, which means the little girl Claire and Jamie took in at the end of Outlander Season 7 might not be Claire’s granddaughter, but rather her niece – a fact she currently believes otherwise. Although it would be delightful, what if these flashbacks indicate that the Beauchamps do not reunite soon…or perhaps not at all in the 1700s?
In the culmination of the two-part debut, with Julia and Henry still unable to reunite in the past, they resort to writing letters to each other, a method they used during the war to stay connected. These flashbacks are reminiscent of times before their encounter with time travel.
If these particular elements from the 1900s are maintained (and if the showrunner believes it’s essential to keep them to incorporate time travel into the series), could it be possible that Mr. and Mrs. Beauchamp won’t have a chance to reunite in the past? Instead, would the “controlled discomfort” of the actors’ romantic scenes need to occur in flashbacks?
Ideally, I must be misunderstanding the situation, considering how much I hope they can reunite before Julia gives birth, rather than their reunion occurring at the very end of the series. It seems we’ll all have to keep tuning in to find out for how long this couple will remain separated.
