3 Current Prime Video Series That Could Potentially Go On Forever

Most TV shows, whether on traditional channels or streaming platforms like Prime Video, eventually come to an end. Stories wrap up, characters’ journeys finish, and shows can simply feel dated. It’s rare for a series to avoid a finale and keep going indefinitely, like shows such as General Hospital or Pokémon.

While streaming services haven’t created a truly iconic, long-running show yet, three series on Prime Video have the potential to fill that role.

3. Jack Ryan

When John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan was originally streaming on Prime Video, it didn’t seem destined for a long run. As expected, season four marked the end of the series. But now, the story is continuing in a new movie, which suggests there’s still more to tell about the often-frustrating Jack Ryan.

Ever since 1990, people have been fascinated with adaptations of Jack Ryan, and that doesn’t seem likely to change. While John Krasinski’s series might not continue as a regular show, Amazon could still explore the world of Jack Ryan every few years with a movie, special, or short limited series. This would keep the franchise alive and give Krasinski the freedom to work on other projects.

Unlike the character Reacher, who is strongly tied to the actor who plays him, Jack Ryan is more of an ordinary person. This means Amazon could easily find a new actor to take over the role if John Krasinski decided to leave the show.

2. The Critical Role Franchise

Critical Role’s animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina, was a huge success, but it will end after five seasons. Luckily, a new series, The Mighty Nein, is coming to Prime Video in 2025, and a second season is already being planned, as announced by Sam Riegel.

Critical Role’s The Mighty Nein continued the high quality established by The Legend of Vox Machina, and there’s plenty more potential for fantastic stories in the future. With the “Bells Hells” campaign and the ongoing fourth campaign, there’s enough material for years of adaptation. As long as the team continues playing Dungeons & Dragons, there will always be new stories to tell. Even beyond that, they could create entirely original animated content, or even explore live-action projects.

1. Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Prime Video’s take on Mr. & Mrs. Smith surprisingly exceeded expectations. While the original 2005 movie was just an okay action comedy, the new series, created by Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover, completely reimagined the concept. It’s a clever, exciting, and original show that delivers both action and well-developed characters.

In the new Prime Video series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the names ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ aren’t the characters’ actual names – they’re code names used by different spies. So far, Eiza González, Maya Erskine, Parker Posey, and Sophie Thatcher have played the ‘Jane’ agents, and Alexander Skarsgård, Donald Glover, Wagner Moura, and Mark Eydelshteyn have played the ‘John’ agents.

The series Mr. & Mrs. Smith could be a continuing spy show for Prime Video. Each season (or a couple of seasons) could feature a new pair of Mr. and Mrs. Smiths, allowing for fresh storylines and relationship dynamics. Think of it like James Bond, but following a married couple instead of a single agent.
