In a chat before the launch of Season 2, John Cena, the star behind the character Peacemaker in the DC series “Peacemaker,” discussed why this show holds significance for the DC Universe. The initial season debuted on January 13, 2022, functioning as a spin-off from the DC Extended Universe movie The Suicide Squad (2021). However, the second season is integrated within the DCU, with Chris Smith / Peacemaker making a cameo in the 2025 Superman film, and characters introduced in that movie set to feature in the forthcoming episodes of the series.
John Cena says Peacemaker Season 2 will push the DCU forward after Superman
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Season 2 premiere, Cena discussed the part Peacemaker will have in the larger DC Universe storyline. When questioned about how this season would surpass the previous installment, Cena stated, “I don’t believe it’s about exceeding the last one. Instead, I think it’s more about advancing the narrative, rather than focusing on standalone episodes.
The leaders mentioned that all parts of the DC Universe are now intertwined. They further explained that this connection was seen when Peacemaker appeared in Superman’s story, and they hinted that this interconnectedness will continue to unfold in Season 2, deepening the overall narrative across the entire DC Universe.
In his remarks, Cena revealed that the upcoming episode of the series propels the 11th Street Kids into their subsequent escapade, while simultaneously advancing the narrative arc of the DC Universe.
As a die-hard movie fan, I’m excitedly looking forward to the next chapter in the DC Universe (DCU), spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran. With only a few titles under its belt, this budding franchise is no less significant than the iconic Superman series. So, for me, the second season of Peacemaker carries an equally momentous importance to the DCU’s future success.
In the second season, you’ll see Jennifer Holland portray Emilia Harcourt, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, and Freddie Stroma in his dual role as Adrian Chase / Vigilante. The premiere of Peacemaker Season 2 is set for HBO Max on August 21, 2025.
