Kelly Clarkson cancels Texas concert appearance days after ex-husband Brandon Blackstock’s shock death

Kelly Clarkson will not be attending the Band Together Texas charity event as originally planned, due to the passing of her former spouse, Brandon Blackstock.

At a scheduled event on August 17, a 43-year-old musician (not named in the late talent manager’s obituary) was intended to perform, aiming to collect funds for individuals impacted by the devastating floods that occurred in July.

The mother of two wasn’t the one who shared the news directly, but instead, it was announced on the event’s Instagram stories on a Tuesday.

According to a previous post, it’s regrettable that Kelly Clarkson won’t be able to perform at Band Together Texas as scheduled, because of some personal matters she needs to attend to.

‘We send out love to Kelly and her family,’ the statement concluded.

The upcoming charity event, featuring artists Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum, will take place at the Moody Center in Austin.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to announce that in addition to an impressive lineup of music artists, the stage is also set for performances by the talented duo Lambert and McCollum. Joining them will be the likes of Ryan Bingham, Wade Bowen, Jack Ingram, Cody Johnson, Lukas Nelson, Jon Randall, and Randy Rogers Band. So mark your calendars for an unforgettable music experience!

The goal, according to the official site, is to gather significant backing for communities affected by floods, as they work towards recovery and reconstruction, focusing on their ongoing necessities.

48-year-old Clarkson’s former spouse, unfortunately, succumbed to melanoma on August 7 after fighting the disease for three years.

For a period spanning from 2013 until 2022, when they officially ended their marriage through divorce, this particular pair were husband and wife. During this time, they had the joy of bringing into the world two beautiful children: Remington, now eleven years old, and River who is nine years old.

As a devoted dad, I’m proud to say that my family includes Savannah, aged 23, and Seth, aged 18. My first wife, Melissa Ashworth, and I had the pleasure of welcoming them into our lives together. Recently, Melissa has chosen to speak out about my passing.

As a lifestyle expert, I must share some insightful observations regarding an unfortunate event that transpired recently. Contrary to what one might expect, Jeremy Clarkson, the renowned broadcaster, was not named in the obituary of Benny Blackstock, which was made public on Tuesday by Butte Funeral Home. This unexpected omission has sparked intrigue among fans and followers of both gentlemen, as their lives intertwined significantly in various professional capacities over the years.

Besides his children, grandchildren, grandparents, and step-relatives, the obituary mentioned Reba McEntire, who was previously a stepmother to him.

The obituary surprisingly disclosed that Blackstock was involved romantically with Clarkson’s former assistant prior to his passing.

In 2006, Clarkson and Blackstock initially crossed paths, but it wasn’t until 2012 that they started dating. The next year, in 2013, the couple got married during a wedding ceremony hosted at Blackberry Farms, located in Tennessee.

By June 2020, the host of the talk show had initiated a divorce, attributing the separation to ‘insurmountable disagreements’. The divorce proceedings were concluded two years after that.

Clarkson expressed in an interview with Angie Martinez on her IRL podcast in 2023 that the most challenging aspect of a publicized divorce is understanding that it wasn’t a sudden decision, but rather something that took time.

I aimed to create something breathtakingly stunning. I aspired to produce something exceptionally remarkable. I strived to make it the best it could ever be, but at times, things don’t always turn out as planned.

Additionally, she filed a lawsuit against her former spouse last year, alleging that he conducted unapproved business transactions in her name.

In May 2024, they resolved their disputes regarding commissions, bringing an end to a prolonged and contested legal fight that started shortly following their divorce, which had been officially finalized two years prior.

The previous week, on a day preceding the news about Blackstock’s demise, Clarkson shared on Instagram that she needed to delay the rest of her August concerts in Las Vegas due to unforeseen circumstances.

On the next day, a representative for the family issued a statement saying, ‘With deep sorrow, we announce the unfortunate demise of Brandon Blackstock.’

For over three years, Brandon courageously fought against cancer. In the end, he departed this world serenely, with his loved ones close by.

We appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. We kindly request that everyone respects our privacy as we navigate through this challenging time.

Prior to marrying Clarkson, Blackstock was previously married to Melissa Ashworth, tying the knot in 1999. However, their marriage ended in a divorce in 2012.

On Tuesday, the obituary disclosed that the late talent manager was previously in a loving relationship.

Ever since I’ve found myself enamored with Brittney Marie Jones, we’ve chosen to live our love story away from prying eyes, nestled in the serene landscapes of Montana.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d rephrase that as follows:

After two decades immersed in the music industry, my heart led me back to the majestic mountains and the authentic cowboy way of life I had long aspired to embrace. I found my sanctuary in Butte, Montana, where I discovered a homestead and fell deeply in love.

Together with his cherished life and business partner, Brittney Marie Jones, Brandon embarked on a journey of building their lives, establishing businesses, and dedicating endless effort to establish Headwaters Livestock Auction. Their collective endeavors also included founding The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana – a testament to Brandon’s enduring legacy.

Previously, Jones worked as an assistant to both Clarkson and Blackstock, as stated in their respective LinkedIn profiles.

Since then, Jones’ father has spoken up about Blackstock’s death, referring to him and his daughter as two souls deeply connected.

Yesterday, we sadly said goodbye to Brandon Blackstock, who was not only my daughter’s beloved partner but also felt like my own son. This poignant sentiment was expressed by his father in a heartfelt post on Facebook, which has since been made private. (Source: Page Six)

With deepest sympathies to Brittney Jones and her family, may they find comfort during this difficult time as we remember her delightful sense of humor. Rest in peace, dear friend.”

This version aims to convey the same message while sounding more formal and respectful than the original, using phrases like “deepest sympathies,” “comfort,” and “rest in peace” instead of colloquial expressions such as “R.I.P hoss.” Additionally, I replaced the phrase “going to miss your funny humor” with a more eloquent way of saying it by describing her sense of humor as “delightful.

Various heartfelt tributes have poured in, remembering Blackstock following his passing, with his ex-wife and son Seth among those expressing their grief.

Reba McEntire’s son Shelby shared a heartbreaking post in honor of his late half-brother.

Blackstock, born to parents Narvel Blackstock and Elisa Gayle Ritter, later became the son of a man who was married to Reba McEntire from 1989 until 2015, with Shelby being the child that they had together.

Last Friday, the race car driver wrote a heartfelt message dedicated to Blackstock, accompanied by a collection of old photographs.

I couldn’t help but share the heartache our family has experienced, for Blackstock was truly an unreplaceable piece within it.

She wrote, “Shelby’s words ring true. We’ll surely feel his absence deeply,” accompanied by a series of sad and fractured heart emojis.
