The brand-new spy thriller, titled “Butterfly,” featuring Daniel Dae Kim from “Hawaii Five-0,” is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
The six-episode series, originally based on Arash Amel’s graphic novels published by Boom! Studios, is now available as a new adaptation.
As stated, the series centers around David Jung, portrayed by Daniel Dae Kim, a mysterious and volatile ex-US intelligence agent residing in South Korea. His tranquil life is disrupted when events from a questionable decision in his past reemerge to wreak havoc on him.
He encounters Rebecca, a ruthless young agent from a shadowy organization named Caddis who’s been tasked with eliminating him, hot on his heels.
As a gamer stepping into this exciting virtual world, I’m thrilled to be joining forces with the talented lineup that includes Kim, known as an executive producer, along with Piper Perabo, Louis Landau, Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim. Together, we’re ready to conquer this digital adventure!
In initial critiques, Collider praised Butterfly for its non-stop action, pointing out that the show seamlessly transitions into captivating, hypnotic dance sequences captured from unique, cinematic viewpoints, which intensifies the feeling of risk and skill on display.
Agreeing with the assessment, TV Guide characterized the program as sleek and a robust spy series, featuring action sequences that are consistently captivating. However, they pointed out that the familial relationships portrayed between David and his daughter seemed underdeveloped.
The article pondered, “Sometimes, the butterfly performance appears as if it overlooked the essential emotional aspects to give it depth beyond just action and mystery.
As I embarked on my latest creative venture, I couldn’t help but share my excitement about it with the world. You see, I’ve always identified as a fusion of Korean and American cultures, and I’ve been yearning to create something that truly reflects this unique identity of mine. Frankly, I haven’t come across anything similar on television, and I thought, why not bring this fresh perspective to the small screen?
Since I hadn’t come across this comic book before, I wondered if I could create my own version. We took inspiration from the original story, which was set in Europe, but we decided to move it to Korea instead, because of my background, which made it a fitting platform for exploring the themes that I find intriguing.
All six episodes of Butterfly are now available to stream on Prime Video.
