Antony Starr, known for his roles as John Gillman/Homelander in the popular Prime Video superhero series The Boys, bid adieu to the show via a social media message. The series, based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, first premiered on Prime Video on July 26, 2019, to widespread critical praise and enthusiastic fan response.
Antony Starr bids farewell to The Boys with bloody Homelander photos
Starr uploaded several images on Instagram, showcasing his character, behind-the-scenes shots, and pictures with his co-stars. Accompanying these photos, he penned a lengthy message expressing his feelings about wrapping up the project and expressing gratitude towards his colleagues and supporters. It’s worth mentioning that filming for The Boys Season 5 was completed in June 2025.

Starr began by saying he’s taken some time to reflect, as the conclusion of the show left him wanting to sort things out. He found it tough to articulate just how remarkable this journey has been for him, describing it as the pinnacle of his career. The series had a long and successful run, and Starr made sure to acknowledge the challenges it faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Starr added, “At the wrap-up of the shoot, all I can truly express is gratitude. To the outstanding Canadian team, the brilliant production staff, the exceptionally gifted actors, the folks at Amazon and Sony who took a risk on this unusual project (and wisely selected me), and everyone else who in some manner, large or small, contributed to this stunning, intricate, twisted, delectable series.
Afterward, the actor emphasized once more his affection for Homelander, mentioning that he’d sorely miss attending work and bringing such a “complex” character to life. This role provided him with the opportunity to delve deeper and explore new limits, in ways he hadn’t foreseen before.
In simpler terms, Starr referred to Eric Kripke, the creator and producer of the series, as his “joint guardian” in creating Homelander. He expressed that he would miss working with both of them.
The fifth and final season of The Boys is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
