Chance the Rapper discusses his experience with co-parenting alongside his former spouse, as he gears up for the launch of a fresh album and embarks on a nationwide tour.
On Monday, the rap artist hailing from Chicago visited the CBS Morning studio for a discussion about the launch of his second studio album titled “Star Line.” Known as Chancelor Bennett, or simply Chance, he characterized this latest extended play as his most ambitious project.
“It covers a lot of different areas in my life,” he said.
Through a mixtape recorded during a high school suspension, Chance found his niche within the music industry. In 2012, he independently released “10 Days” and has since pursued a solo career on this self-determined trajectory.
After releasing his first album, he followed it up with “Acid Rap” a year later and then “Coloring Book” in 2016. In 2023, Chance marked the 10th anniversary of his second mixtape by performing the entire tape at the Kia Forum.
In 2013, he released his debut LP, and a year after that came “Acid Rap”. Four years later in 2016, he dropped “Coloring Book”. In 2023, Chance celebrated the 10th anniversary of his second mixtape by performing it in its entirety at the Kia Forum.
As a passionate cinephile penning rhymes, I penned the album “Acid Rap” while sharing stages with artists who filled 300-seat venues. In my lyrics, I expressed dreams of performing at open mics yet visualizing myself on massive arena stages. Reflecting back on that project and stepping onto those arenas now fills me with immense pride.
Currently, the musician responsible for hits such as “Cocoa Butter Kisses” and “No Problem” revealed that his latest album mirrors the transformative journey of his life over the past six years, encompassing significant events like his divorce from Kirsten Corley, who is also the mother of his two children.
As a movie buff expressing myself, there’s nothing quite like unveiling my creations to the globe; it’s more than just letting go, it’s about connecting and engaging with others worldwide.
In 2019, the pair tied the knot and shared news of their split via Instagram the previous year. Last December, Corley officially initiated divorce proceedings. Despite the separation, they remain committed to co-parenting their two little girls.
Bennett expressed that family holds significant importance for him, Corley, their children, and both sets of parents. He believes that maintaining a family-centric environment should be the top priority for anyone embarking on parenting post-divorce.
In 2019, Chance the Rapper put out his latest album titled “The Big Day.” Now, he’s set to release its sequel this coming Friday, and he’ll embark on a tour starting September. The tour schedule includes a stop in Los Angeles on October 20th.
