Elizabeth Hurley opens up about ‘traumatic’ first trip back to Melbourne since ex-fiancé Shane Warne’s shock death

Elizabeth Hurley discusses, for the first time, her heartfelt meeting with the family of her deceased former fiancé, Shane Warne.

In November, for the first time since Shane’s unexpected passing, the actress and model (who is now 60 years old) visited Melbourne. During her stay, she reconnected with Shane’s family, which included his parents, brother, and children. The days spent together were both happy and sad, making for a ‘bittersweet’ experience overall.

Elizabeth decided to mix a race day event with her visit to make an otherwise ‘extremely distressing’ journey more bearable.

On this week’s Travel Secrets podcast, I shared a personal story: In November last year, I found myself back in Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup. It had been my first visit since the passing of dear Shane.

Given that the journey was expected to be extremely challenging, we decided to make it a racing event as well, which served as a dual purpose – not only for the thrill of racing but also to find some closure in various aspects.

In 2010, Elizabeth started dating the renowned cricketer Shane, often hailed as one of the best spin bowlers ever. Their relationship progressed to an engagement the very next year.

In 2013, they parted ways, but they maintained a close relationship until his sudden passing due to a suspected heart attack in March 2022 during a vacation in Thailand.

At the age of 52, Shane passed away, leaving behind three grown children: Brooke (age 28), Jackson (age 25), and Summer (age 23). These children were born during his marriage to yoga instructor Simone Callahan, who is no longer his spouse.

Elizabeth mentioned that all of his family is in Melbourne. This means she can visit his parents, brother, and for the first time, meet them in person, as it was her first encounter since. She has already met the children as they have visited England previously.

‘That [trip] was really full of disturbing… It wasn’t good but I’m really glad I’ve done it.’

She added: ‘Returning brought a mix of sweetness and sadness. It made me quite emotional, yet I felt happy that I had gone.’

‘And I know when I next get back to Australia, it’ll be fine.’

Due to her work and travel obligations, Elizabeth was unfortunately unable to be present at Shane’s state funeral held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 2022.

Last year, the stunning brunette, currently in a relationship with renowned American country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, was spotted at Flemington Racecourse. Accompanying her was her 23-year-old son Damian. She was seen warmly embracing Shane’s family, which included Shane’s parents Bridgette and Keith, as well as his brother Jason.

In 2020, Damian’s natural father, the U.S. entrepreneur Steve Bing, took his own life. The sadness from the passing of both Shane and Steve last year has brought Elizabeth and her family even closer together.

She shared with The Telegraph, “We’ve endured a great loss – the passing of Shane was horrific, an unbearable event. This sorrow lingers, you understand, for quite some time.

As people age, they tend to encounter increasing amounts of loss. However, Damian, being relatively young, seems to have faced more than many, which I believe has a significant impact on him. I suspect this influence extends to his artistic work and his overall persona as an artist.

In 2018, Shane expressed about his relationship with Elizabeth: “The future is uncertain. There’s a distinction between being infatuated with someone and truly loving them.

Regardless of the circumstances, my affection for Elizabeth remains unwavering. However, I believe our days as a couple are behind us. During the time we spent together, we truly enjoyed each other’s company. Sadly, things didn’t turn out as planned in the end.

The relationship didn’t fail due to any fault on either of our parts; instead, it simply petered out. Despite this, we remain close friends and maintain contact, as we have a positive influence on each other’s lives. Our children also get along well.

Additionally, he shared with The Mirror, “I underestimated the depth of my love for Elizabeth. I deeply yearn for the affection we shared. My time with Elizabeth was the most joyful period in my existence.

Elizabeth keeps a close bond with Brooke, Jackson, and Summer, who were once engaged to her ex-fiancé.

As a devoted admirer, I too cherish the close relationship that Damian has cultivated with Shane’s children. We reminisce over shared memories from our family vacations and engage in heartfelt conversations through comments on their social media posts.
