Fans of Halle Berry criticized Halle Berry’s former partner for his explanation on why he chose to part ways with her in the past, following his recent disclosure.
Berry, 58, was previously married to David Justice for four years from 1993 to 1997.
As a devoted admirer, I’d put it this way: After cherishing the dream of building a family with Justice, the exquisite baseball legend, our journey took an unexpected turn. I found myself yearning for a more nurturing presence, a warm and caring ‘motherly’ bond that seemed to be missing in our relationship, ultimately leading us to part ways.
In an appearance on the All the Smoke podcast, hosted by Matt Barnes, the MLB player, now 59, discussed how his personal life came under intense scrutiny due to his previous relationship with the actress known for her role as Catwoman.
In a recent podcast discussion, he openly shared his past thoughts: ‘Was she the right partner for us to start a family, given we might have children together? At that stage in life, she didn’t seem very domestic or maternal, as she didn’t cook, clean, or show signs of being a traditional homemaker.’
Initially, he didn’t recognize it, but later on, he came to understand that this wasn’t the partner he wished to spend his lifetime with. However, he subsequently acknowledged that their marriage might have been salvageable if he had known about counseling or therapy earlier.
Nevertheless, his remarks continued to provoke anger, as it seemed that Berry’s supporters were taken aback by his initial desire for her to play a stereotypical housewife character during her burgeoning acting career in showbiz, when she already had a demanding job.

In simpler terms, ‘At the time, I had limited experience with relationships as I had only been in one serious one prior to meeting her. My understanding and awareness of relationships was quite limited compared to what it is now.’
Many spectators criticized Justice, a three-time MLB All-Star and two-time World Series champion who played for both the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees throughout his 14-year career, for having the nerve to suggest that the Oscar-winning actress should do the cooking and cleaning.
As a devoted admirer, I’d rephrase that statement like this: “She wasn’t just his mother, but more like a partner.” This sentiment was shared on social media X during the time when Justice’s comments about Berry became widely discussed online, and many fans rallied to her defense.
Imagine envisioning Halle Berry, a groundbreaking actress who earned $20m for a movie, considered the most desirable woman in the world for many years, the first Black woman to win an Oscar, to instead stay home doing household chores. Such audacity from some people!
A fan remarked, “It’s absolutely ridiculous that David Justice expected Halle Berry to cook and clean! What on earth was he thinking?” The fan’s exclamation is accompanied by a GIF conveying their disappointment.
It’s hard to believe that Halle Berry, a well-known figure in the entertainment industry, was reportedly planning to step back from her lucrative career to manage household chores for an unknown individual? That’s quite unexpected and had me laughing out loud!
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: The MLB star and the renowned actress, given their substantial wealth, should both contribute to household chores by putting on an apron and tidying up around the house, as I believe in shared responsibilities within a partnership.
‘David thought it was normal for the fabulous Halle Berry at her best to be a homemaker. That’s quite a blunder from Mr. Justice!’

Can you believe it? That guy tweeted a laugh and said, ‘David Justice, who’s lucky enough to have married Halle Berry, thought she should iron his clothes! Who does he think Catwoman is, the maid?’
A different fan posted: ‘David’s remark about Halle Berry’s justice role reveals more about his personal taste than her worth. Many remarkable mothers don’t adhere to the traditional “homemaker, caregiver” mold. Sometimes, it’s simply a case of misalignment rather than an evaluation of value.’
As of now, Berry hasn’t replied to the public remarks made during his latest podcast interview.
In the very same show, Justice expressed his frustration towards his former wife, as she had neglected to make clear that a different ex-partner, rather than him, was the one who had been physically abusive in their past relationship.
Additionally, he acknowledged that his sudden departure caused significant pain to her, as opposed to trying to smooth things over or seeking help to heal the relationship.
In 1996, Halle Berry disclosed to People magazine that she had a former partner, whose identity remained undisclosed, who inflicted physical abuse upon her. During one such instance, he struck her in the head so forcefully that it perforated her eardrum, resulting in ongoing hearing issues for her.
In the podcast, Justice expressed that it appeared as if I were responsible, but she found it utterly incorrect of her to do so. Alternatively, he stated that he believed she made a grave mistake by allowing people to believe it was him.
Later on, he commented about their marriage, considering it years after their separation: “Looking back, I realize she truly cared for me.

As a devoted admirer, I can certainly understand why she might feel furious with me. Picture this scenario: cherishing someone deeply, only for them to express their desire to part ways, leaving you speechless and helpless to change the situation. It must’ve been incredibly challenging for her to endure such heartache.
He clarified, stating he simply vanished without warning, and admitted that he could have communicated his departure more gracefully.
For the past 24 years, Justice has been happily married to his wife, Rebecca. Together they have raised two wonderful children. On the other hand, Berry has been in a committed relationship with Van Hunt for five years now.
In the past, she was wedded to Eric Benet from 2001 until 2005, and later to Oliver Martinez from 2013 to 2016.
She has two kids: a 17-year-old daughter named Nahla (whose father is Gabriel Aubry), and an 11-year-old son called Maceo, who was born to her with Martinez.
