Pedro Pascal, fresh off a bustling 2025 that featured roles in “The Last of Us” Season 2, “Fantastic Four: First Steps”, “Eddington”, and “The Materialists”, is now fully committed to new endeavors. The renowned star of “The Mandalorian” will be joining forces with Tony Gilroy, creator of “Andor”, for his upcoming project.
Through Deadline, it’s been announced that Gilroy will pen and direct the movie Behemoth for Searchlight Pictures. At first, it seemed that another Star Wars actor, Oscar Isaac, who shares a close friendship with Pedro Pascal, was set to star as the main character. However, Isaac has since stepped away from the project. According to Deadline, while the deal isn’t finalized yet, sources indicate that Pascal is interested in the role and things are moving positively in that direction.
Pascal has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the Best Actor category for a Drama Series, specifically for his role as Joel Miller in The Last of Us Season 2. Although Joel was written off the show, Pascal’s acting in the limited episodes he appeared in was highly praised. He also received recognition for his portrayal of Reed Richards in Marvel’s Fantastic Four, and has recently completed filming for Avengers: Doomsday.
Pedro, known for his notable roles in hit TV shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Narcos,” “The Last of Us,” and “The Mandalorian,” is now gaining attention in movies. In the upcoming film “Behemoth,” Pascal will star as a cellist in what appears to be an exciting collaboration with director Gilroy. While this casting hasn’t been officially confirmed, it has generated interest among Star Wars enthusiasts who are eagerly awaiting the project.
For Gilroy, this upcoming project signifies a shift from the large-scale revolutionary drama, “Andor.” He disclosed some plot points, with the story revolving around a third-generation studio musician who has been a wandering hired gun for two decades before returning to L.A. The entire movie is music-focused, and you learn through flashbacks why he left in the first place. Despite the fervor of “Andor” fans wanting him to stay, Gilroy has expressed his desire to explore other creative avenues outside of Star Wars. However, he hasn’t definitively closed the door on revisiting the franchise down the line.
After Andor’s huge success for Gilroy, everyone is eagerly anticipating his upcoming project. Given Pedro Pascal’s rising stardom, there’s a high chance it will be another hit. Although Gilroy may take a break from Star Wars, Pascal will reappear as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian’s theatrical debut next year, accompanied by his small sidekick Grogu. The Mandalorian and Grogu is the next live-action Star Wars project, marking the first Star Wars film to hit theaters since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres in theaters on May 22, 2026.
