David Justice, Halle Berry’s former spouse, spoke openly about their unsuccessful marriage to the Academy Award winner, sharing insights on potential factors that might have saved their union.

58-year-old Halle Berry, once a bride to a retired Major League Baseball player in 1993, parted ways with him only four years into their marriage.

On the latest All The Smoke podcast, which aired on Thursday, David candidly discussed the topic. He mentioned that following their wedding, there was an initial period of bliss; however, over time, he started to contemplate whether she was truly the right partner for him to start a family with.

The famous athlete shared that prior to marrying Halle, he had only been in one significant romantic relationship. He acknowledged that his experience and comprehension of relationships were limited at the time.

David, aged 59, shared that his upbringing in the Midwest had influenced his perspective on marriage. In his thoughts, a wife during that era was expected to prepare meals, maintain the home, and adhere to traditional roles, as you might understand.

The baseball player confessed that he agreed to the offer due to not being able to refuse, and conceded that he was uncertain if his true passion was actually involved.

‘But I didn’t want to make her feel bad and say no, you know, or [if] I was just in the moment.’  

After a few months of wedlock, it became apparent that the ex-spouses harbored significant differences, and their professional commitments kept them apart for extended periods.

David explained that due to her film commitments, they often found themselves spending significant periods apart – in one country for her work and another for him. Later, he shared his thoughts on factors that might have prevented their marriage from ending.
