Tonight, “Ridley,” the captivating detective series featuring Adrian Dunbar, returns for its second season on TV.
In this ITV show, the star of Line of Duty takes on the role of Alex Ridley, a former detective who gets re-enlisted by the police department as a consultant. The team makes use of his wealth of experience to tackle complex and puzzling investigations.
After its highly successful first season in 2022, ITV promptly renewed the drama for a second season. This season premiered in the US back in September. Now, after a year-long wait, Ridley is returning to British television screens at 8pm on ITV1.
As a devoted viewer, I eagerly dived into the gripping two-hour opener titled ‘A Sleeping Tiger’, marking the beginning of a quartet of intriguing feature-length instalments. The narrative unfolds as our detective hero embarks on an investigation that starts with a jewellery heist but soon unravels into a complex murder case.
Here are three episodes scheduled to broadcast simultaneously every Sunday. However, if you can’t wait or simply can’t get enough, start streaming the entire second season of the show on ITVX from this coming Sunday.
Alongside Dunbar, the ensemble cast for the series also features Bronagh Waugh, Terence Maynard, Georgie Glen, George Bukhari, Julie Graham, and Bhavna Limbachia. Aidan McArdle and Jacquetta May are part of the supporting cast as well.
In my perspective, I’ve always admired how Dunbar has emphasized the profound impact of his character’s past, a past that led him to step away from the police force after the tragic loss of his wife and daughter. Even now, their absence continues to resonate deeply within him, leaving an indelible mark on his character due to the trauma he endured.
Praising the depiction of mental health issues in men, actor Dunbar shared exclusively with Digital Spy: “Many men believe they ought to simply handle things themselves, push down their feelings, and find a way to overcome them independently.
Working hard takes a significant toll on Ridley, causing him to struggle, particularly when he’s alone. His struggles are immense, and perhaps returning to work marks the beginning of his recovery process.
The actor expressed his belief that it’s important for individuals to [remove that] since seclusion is significantly impactful, particularly in rural communities. He noted that many men, often those living alone, experience significant hardship as a result of isolation. Additionally, he shared that his character exhibits a strong sense of understanding and compassion towards others.
Ridley airs at 8pm on ITV1 while also streaming on ITVX.
The latest print issue from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available for purchase! You can find it at local newsstands or buy it online, currently priced at only £8.99.
