‘The Mandalorian’ actor Gina Carano and Disney settle lawsuit over alleged wrongful termination

According to reports, the legal dispute between The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, on one side, and actress Gina Carano, known for her role in “The Mandalorian,” has been resolved. Carano claimed she was unfairly dismissed from the show and subjected to discrimination due to her social media content.

On Thursday, both Carano and Disney independently announced the settlement. Carano described it as the “most favorable resolution for all parties concerned.

She expressed in a post on X that she wished this would aid in some restoration of the force. She’s eager to turn the page and embark on the following chapter. I look forward to continuing in the realm of art, a place I hope you’ll accompany me.

Additionally, she acknowledged and expressed gratitude towards Elon Musk, the philanthropist and billionaire, for his financial support in her legal dispute with Disney. She described his actions as a “generous act” from an individual she hadn’t previously known.

A representative from Lucasfilm stated on Thursday that they are eager to explore potential collaborations with Carano in the coming days, following the resolution of the lawsuit. They did not reveal any details about the terms of the settlement.

The spokesperson stated that Ms. Carano was consistently held in high regard by her supervisors, fellow actors, and team members. She consistently put in effort to hone her skills and showed consideration and respect towards her peers.

The agreement was reached approximately a year and a few months following Carano’s lawsuit against Disney, Lucasfilm, and Huckleberry Industries, which came in response to her termination from the Disney+ series. Carano, who played the character Cara Dune for two seasons, had faced backlash due to several questionable social media statements.

In a now-removed post, she suggested that current conservative views are as persecuted as Jews during the Holocaust. Critics also highlighted instances where she spread false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, criticized mask mandates during the pandemic, and made light of people sharing their preferred pronouns.

Her social media posts sparked a heated debate, as some people demanded she be dismissed from the show, while others suggested boycotting Disney+ in support of her.

As a devoted Star Wars fanatic, I can share that in the year 2021, a Lucasfilm representative made it clear that I was no longer part of the “Star Wars” production team. They mentioned that there were no intentions of having me involved in their future projects. The statement also expressed that my posts were considered repugnant and unsuitable for the Star Wars community.

At the given time, Carano stated that she had been offered a part in the postponed “Star Wars” spinoff titled “Rangers of the New Republic.” In her legal action, she asserted that she faced targeted harassment, public humiliation, and defamation due to expressing political views that Disney perceived as not fitting their preferred perspective.

She was aiming for over $75,000 in compensation and wanted to return to her position on “The Mandalorian” production.
