90s pop icon looks unrecognisable 26 years on from release of hit record

A well-known pop star from the ’90s, famous for their hits, appeared drastically changed in a recent video, 26 years after they made a significant impact on the music scene with their records.

As a die-hard admirer, I couldn’t help but be taken aback when the one and only Anna Shantha Kumble, better known to us as Lolly, graced her TikTok stage with an entirely new look that left me breathless! A far cry from her iconic 90s style, she had everyone talking.

The popular British artist and performer, aged 48, is renowned for her catchy tunes such as “Viva La Radio” from her debut album in 1999 which topped the charts, along with other hits like “Mickey” and “Big Boys Don’t Cry.”

Paraphrasing helps to express ideas in a new way while maintaining the original meaning. In this case, I replaced “bangers,” which is colloquial slang for hit songs or popular items, with “catchy tunes.” Additionally, instead of using “releasing” for her chart-topping hits, I used “topping the charts” to provide a clearer understanding. Lastly, I substituted “as” with “along with” for the additional hits mentioned.

In the year 2000, she released her second studio album titled “Pick ‘n’ Mix,” which peaked at number 80 on the UK music charts.

Besides the two albums, the pop artist also put out five hit singles that charted within the Top 20 during her two-year tenure in the music industry.

Now, Lolly stepped onto her social media stage, addressing the nostalgic crowd as she presented herself.

‘Hello. It’s Lolly here. A blast from your past. Or maybe not?,’ she said.

The singer, who goes by Lolly, posed a question to their fans: “I sung some tunes way back in 1999 and 2000. Do you think you can guess which songs they were?

She suggested: ‘Go ahead and subscribe to my channel. There, you’re welcome to ask me any questions, and I’ll share everything with you.’

The former student of music appeared timelessly youthful, donning a fashionable light-blue top, and an array of music albums adorned the backdrop in the surrounding space.

For some Saturday and Sunday mornings over the years, Lolly served as a substitute host for Anna Williamson on the children’s program Toonattik, which is no longer airing on CITV.

The famous television personality expanded their acting portfolio by taking on roles in West End plays, notably appearing in Starlight Express and portraying the legendary Priscilla Presley in a production about Elvis.

She persisted with her musical endeavors, ultimately launching a single called “Stay Young and Beautiful” in 2018. Remarkably, this was her first release in 18 years when it came out.

In 2020, Lolly’s follow-up single was titled Paper Rain.
