Gina Carano is once again generating buzz, as a surge of online advocacy has rekindled pleas for her character’s return to “The Mandalorian.” Following the news of her dispute resolution with Disney, fans are urging the resurrection of Cara Dune’s character in the “Star Wars” universe, signaling renewed enthusiasm for her role.
Fans show support for Gina Carano, want Cara Dune to return
After the resolution between Gina Carano and Disney concerning her dismissal from The Mandalorian, numerous supporters of the actress and her character, Cara Dune, have openly expressed their backing on platform X (previously known as Twitter).
First user said, “Definitely, right away,” while the second user expressed, “Indeed, but they must rectify their actions towards her. It’s not her fault at all. What happened to her is utterly unjust.
Some fans have shown enthusiasm for Gina Carano starring in her own Star Wars series. One fan put it, “I hope she gets a series of her own that was initially promised to her,” while another simply exclaimed, “I’d love to see her have her own show.” A third user noted the lack of Carano’s presence in Season 3, commenting, “She was noticeably absent in Season 3. Perhaps we’ll be fortunate enough to see her in The Mandalorian or Grogu’s storyline.
On August 7th, it was announced that Lucasfilm and Disney had settled their legal disagreement with Carano. In a statement to Variety, a representative from Lucasfilm expressed that Carano was highly respected by her directors, fellow actors, and colleagues, and they are eager to explore potential collaborations with her in the coming days.
In 2021, Carano was let go due to controversial social media posts, one of which drew a parallel between contemporary political conservatives and Jews during the Holocaust. Subsequently, she initiated a federal lawsuit in 2024 alleging wrongful termination and political discrimination, demanding at least $75,000 in compensation and reinstatement to The Mandalorian. Elon Musk covered her legal expenses.
In response to Disney defending themselves under the First Amendment, Carano countered by stating, “Disney has made clear that they will terminate you if your views don’t align with theirs… The First Amendment doesn’t permit Disney to arbitrarily discriminate, which appears to be what happened in my case.
