Previously known actress Alexandra Shipp, who once played the role of Storm in the X-Men series, recently expressed her thoughts about the character’s potential future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a fresh interview, she provided straightforward guidance for whoever assumes the role next and disclosed a particular storyline she fervently hopes Marvel will eventually develop. Her insights offer an intriguing glimpse into what the next phase of Storm might entail.
Alexandra Shipp’s advice for whoever plays Storm in Marvel’s X-Men reboot
During an interview with Collider, Alexandra Shipp underscored the significance of self-expression by stressing that it’s crucial to make things personal rather than focusing on comparison with others.
Shipp points out that it’s not right for people to evaluate Halle Berry’s portrayal of Storm versus his own, as each actor brings unique elements to their roles. He explains that his Storm was less experienced, more influenced by a street fighter personality, which significantly impacted the character’s flying and fighting style.
When asked about which aspect of Storm she wants to see developed in the MCU, Shipp expressed interest in a plotline focusing on Black Panther. “I’d be thrilled to witness Storm after her relationship with T’Challa. I want that part of Storm’s past to be woven into her narrative at that point.” She also mentioned that no movie has yet to showcase Storm’s “African goddess” persona.
Previously, Shipp has expressed dissatisfaction about the limited dialogue she received as Storm. In a 2019 interview with ComicBookMovie, she stated, “Storm doesn’t have much to say… we never talk, so it would be wonderful if we weren’t crammed into another overcrowded cast.” By 2023, she made it clear that she had no intention of reprising the role. In an interview with ET Online, she said, “I believe there are other women who could take on that role and do an amazing job with it.
At present, a fresh take on the X-Men is being shaped by director Jake Schreier in its initial stages. There’s buzz about potential cast members like Ayo Edebiri for Storm and Cynthia Erivo. As stated by Kevin Feige, the Secret Wars storyline is planned to usher in “a new era of mutants and X-Men.
Marvel has not announced a release date yet.
