‘I discovered that the lively, fearless side of me, which I believed only emerged after having a drink, was actually hidden within me all along. What I didn’t know then…was that my longing for an escape was actually a yearning to flee from myself. And the girl I thought I needed to run away from? She turned out to be the one who would ultimately rescue me.’
In simpler terms, Cheryl (known for participating in 26 seasons of Dancing With The Stars) shared that she’s no longer seeking disorder disguised as enjoyment. She also expressed that she won’t endure relationships that force her to neglect herself anymore.
Now, I no longer confuse numbness with tranquility. The things I believed I’d miss in sobriety… turned out to be illusory from the start.
