Chris Pratt could be ‘dragged into Katy Perry’s legal battle’ after he rented the $15M mansion she ‘forced’ dying war veteran, 85, to leave

It’s possible that Chris Pratt might find himself in the middle of a contentious court case, as a terminally ill war veteran alleges he was compelled to hand over his house to Katy Perry.

85-year-old Carl Westcott, who was unwell, consented to sell his house to the singer in 2020 for $11.25 million. However, just a few days later, he attempted to cancel the agreement, stating that he had been under the influence of painkillers when he initially signed it.

As a devoted fan, I’d express it like this: “I’m thrilled to share that Chris, the charismatic star of Guardians of the Galaxy, and his lovely wife Katherine Schwarzenegger have leased an impressive 8-bedroom, 7.5-bath property from none other than Katy.

Now, Katy has filed a lawsuit against the ailing man, currently residing in a hospice and receiving round-the-clock care, seeking $6 million in compensation for unpaid rent and claimed damages.

The court determined that the contract was valid, and at the end of last year, ownership of the gated 1930s estate was legally granted to Katy.

This week’s update suggests that The Sun’s source believes Chris may receive a subpoena because he is considered a potential witness.

The source noted: ‘To determine when he began renting, it’s worth mentioning that the property he resides in is currently embroiled in a legal dispute.’

‘Katy has already been mandated to do so.’

The legal team representing Carl inquired about the rental amount he’s paying, and they also mentioned that Perry has alleged significant damages to the property, arguing it’s uninhabitable. However, they pointed out that the property is livable as an A-list actor is currently renting it.

Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Katy Perry and Chris Pratt.

For several years, Carl and his family have found themselves entangled in a complex legal dispute regarding the Montecito mansion with Katy. Soon, they will have their day in court with Katy. Now, they are also preparing to confront Orlando Bloom over similar issues.

Chart Westcott, acting as power of attorney for his unwell father Carl, informed the Daily Mail that the family intends to persist in their legal battle following a Los Angeles court decision exempting the actor from testifying at last week’s court appearance.

40-year-old Chart firmly asserted that despite the judge’s decision not being in our favor, we will persistently work towards compelling Orlando to testify, as we are certain of his significant role in the case.

48-year-old Orlando, who parted ways with Katy earlier this year, found himself involved in the case back in the fall when he received a subpoena. His name appeared on the joint witness list, which was submitted to court on July 28th.

Katy’s legal representatives are making efforts to prevent her former fiancé from testifying in court. However, Carl’s legal team contends that both celebrities hold crucial roles as eyewitnesses who possess unique, firsthand knowledge about the project’s scope, construction plans, and associated costs.

According to a Daily Mail reporter who was present at the hearing, the judge stated that he required the testimonies of the contractors alone. He further questioned, “Why is Mr. Bloom’s testimony necessary, other than turning this into a celebrity-centered spectacle?

Katy has been instructed to personally attend a trial without a jury, scheduled to start on August 21 in Los Angeles. The judge has made it clear that her testimony and cross-examination will not exceed a total of two hours.

The specific date for the popstar’s appearance remains uncertain due to her ongoing Lifetimes Tour.

However, the Daily Mail confirmed that she will testify.

Chart stated that it being necessary for Katy to go to court is beneficial for them, as they will have the opportunity to confront her directly and make her witness the devastating impact she’s caused on their family.

In this situation, she won’t be able to rely on the advantage of being a celebrity. Instead, she’ll need to appear just like an ordinary individual. Rest assured, we are ready to confront her in court.

In 2020, Carl agreed to sell his spacious 9,000 sq. ft. house on a 2.5-acre lot, which he had recently bought, to Katy for $15 million. However, just a few days later, he attempted to back out of the deal, stating that he was under the influence of painkillers when he initially agreed to sell.

In 2023, a court decided in Katy’s favor, determining that the contract was valid. Consequently, the pop star known as Dark Horse was legally recognized as the owner of a gated 1930s estate with eight bedrooms. This property features amenities such as a tennis court, two guesthouses, and a swimming pool.

During those days from June 10 to June 18, 2020, when Carl was involved in the real estate contract negotiations and signing, the judge found no compelling or convincing evidence indicating that he lacked the ability to understand and enter into such a contract.

Additionally, the judge mentioned that the court discovered substantial proof showing that Carl clearly understood what he was signing when he agreed to the term ‘the entrepreneur was coherent, alert, logical, and sensible.’

In May 2024, the popstar acquired a house that was registered under LLC, DDoveB (named after his daughter Daisy Dove Bloom). This registration was done jointly by Orlando, along with his business managers Richard Feldstein and Mabel Tash.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of excitement knowing that Chris Pratt and his fabulous wife Katherine Schwarzenegger are temporarily making a different abode their own while they construct their dream house. Oh, the thrill!

In a current legal dispute, Katy is advocating for a reduction of $6 million from the original purchase price due to perceived damages to the property, including structural issues, delayed maintenance, and loss of potential rental income. To date, she has only deposited $9 million out of the $15 million agreed upon in escrow.

She argues that she is eligible for a compensation of $3.25 million due to ‘inability to use’ the property, as Carl failed to hand over ownership according to the contract terms. Additionally, she asserts a claim for an additional $2.29 million in new repair costs (bringing her total demand to $5.4 million). This amount is almost equivalent to the $6 million she allegedly owes.

The Westcott family has refuted the damages claimed by The Daily Mail, labeling them as ‘unfounded and excessive’. A source near Katy, however, asserted that recovering costs in civil lawsuits is a standard procedure.

A Dallas-based private investor had earlier described the lawsuit as surprising, as he felt that the singer could simply allow the older individual to continue on his path.

He stated to The U.S. Sun in February that it was reminiscent of celebrity behavior. He further added that she lacks a sense of sportsmanship, and her feelings towards others seem cold and devoid of compassion, rather showing the opposite.

Based on a court document from July submitted by Carl’s lawyer, it was asserted that Perry’s legal team declined repeatedly in about six “meet and confer” emails to disclose if any repairs had been made, and they also refused to agree to another house inspection or the deposition of individuals under Perry’s control, such as Perry herself, her boyfriend Bloom (who at inspections claimed he would oversee repairs), Bernie Gudvi (Perry’s business manager), or the two contractors who in their depositions stated they were general contractors but presented no contracts for the work outlined in their cost estimates.

To date, 16 contractors suspected of involvement in the repair work have been issued deposition subpoenas, which include detailed demands for document production. These contractors are currently listed as witnesses.

Katy will undergo an evaluation covering all aspects related to her compensation claims for property damage and repairs. She may also be asked about her assertion that she had to rent another home, as well as details regarding the rental of the house to Chris Pratt or any other individual. This information is listed in the joint witness list, which can be adjusted before the trial commences.

Even as the conflict rages on, Carl remains confined to his bed, receiving ongoing hospice care for his struggle with Huntington’s disease.

The sibling of the individual referred to as Chart indicated to the Daily Mail that his health remains poor and he is gradually losing weight.

He remarked that for this to be the final act, the last business deal he’s involved in is truly unfortunate and regrettable.

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Katy, Orlando and Bernie Gudvi for comment.
