Jane Pitt, mom to Brad Pitt, dies at 84. Granddaughter calls her ‘love in its purest form’

On Tuesday, at the age of 84, Jane Pitt – who was not only a dedicated school teacher but also a generous benefactor, and the proud mother of actor Brad Pitt – passed away.

In a sharing of remembrance, the Pitt family notified KY3 – a local NBC news channel based in Springfield, Missouri – about the passing of one of their members, who was fondly referred to as Jane. It was in this very city that she, along with her husband Bill, nurtured and raised their three children: Brad, Doug Pitt, and Julie Neal.

The cause of Pitt’s death was not revealed by the family.

Doug Pitt’s daughter, Sydney, paid a heartfelt tribute to her grandmother on Instagram by posting a collection of photographs.

She wrote that we weren’t quite prepared for your departure, but learning that you can now express yourself freely through singing, dancing, and painting again brings some comfort.

Sydney expressed that it’s unclear how we can progress without her, but she believes that she remains a part of everything – from every painting stroke, compassionate act, and even the sighting of a hummingbird. In essence, she was love embodied.

Besides excelling as a talented artist, her family stated that Jane Pitt also worked as an elementary school teacher within the Springfield school district. In the year 2009, the Pitts generously donated $1 million to found the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

On occasion, she would accompany her son Brad to high-profile events. The actor’s six children are part of the Pitt family’s 14 grandchildren, and it was stated that Jane Pitt cherished her role as a grandmother. In her obituary, the family shared that some of her most cherished memories were the special one-on-one moments she spent with each grandchild on their important days.
