Star Wars Reveals Its 2027 Movie Villain (And He’s A Big Star)

In a thrilling reveal, the upcoming Star Wars movie villain is a well-known celebrity that fans are likely familiar with. Following the release of “The Mandalorian and Grogu” next year, director Shawn Levy of “Deadpool & Wolverine” fame will introduce his unique touch to the Star Wars universe through the film titled “Star Wars: Starfighter“. In this upcoming production, Ryan Gosling, known for his role in “Barbie”, takes on the leading part, while Mia Goth, a horror cinema veteran, portrays one of the movie’s intergalactic villains.

The initial exploration of Levy’s intergalactic journey through planet-hopping remains largely unknown, but there’s growing excitement that the movie is gearing up for filming soon, fueling fan anticipation. As production approaches, another significant aspect about the project has been unveiled – yet another formidable villain makes a grand entrance onto the Star Wars stage.

According to Deadline, it’s been announced that Matt Smith, a previous star from the popular series “Doctor Who,” is now part of the cast for “Star Wars: Starfighter.” However, the exact nature of his character – whether he plays a hero or a villain – has not yet been revealed.

In the upcoming Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy in 2027, Smith has become the third major actor set to appear alongside Gosling and Goth.

Information about Smith’s particular character traits remains undisclosed, but it’s been mentioned that the film includes two powerful adversaries. It’s speculated that Smith may play one of these antagonists who pursue Gosling’s character throughout the cosmos.

Previously, it was announced that Smith was set to appear in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’, allegedly as a young Emperor Palpatine. However, his part was eventually removed from the movie prior to filming.

Shawny Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter” is scheduled for a theater release on May 28, 2027, marking the second Star Wars movie in the latest era of Lucasfilm productions (after “The Mandalorian & Grogu”). This upcoming film features stars like Gosling, Smith, and Goth, and it’s set several years after “The Rise of Skywalker”. Filming is expected to begin towards the end of this year.

Why Matt Smith Is the Perfect Star Wars Villain?

Even though we haven’t determined the specific appearance and voice of Matt Smith’s character in “Star Wars: Starfighter” yet, it’s challenging not to feel a surge of anticipation with such a gifted British actor joining the universe of stars, light-years away.

The actor from “House of the Dragon” has shown himself to be a one-of-a-kind talent both on large screens and small ones. At certain points in his previous works, he’s been genuinely chilling, taking on villainous roles in productions such as “Charlie Says” and “Starve Acre.

It appears that Smith’s character might be joining forces with Mia Goth, who is well-known for her terrifying roles in movies like “Pearl,” “X,” and “Maxxxine.” This suggests that Smith may have another opportunity to showcase his acting skills in the frightening realm as one of the villains in “Starfighter.

In a different role than his previous “Rise of Skywalker” character, which was thought to be young Palpatine, let’s hope he gets an opportunity to bring out some of that young Palpatine’s spirit in the upcoming Shawn Levy movie.

It will be interesting to see whether Smith will get to wield a lightsaber in the film.

It’s been said that in the future, Ryan Gosling, the star of Starfighter, will play the role of a Jedi trainer to his young nephew, five years after the events of Episode IX. If Gosling is given a lightsaber, it’s likely that the two characters he faces on screen will also be equipped with one.
