Taylor Swift and Beyonce will battle it out for MTV’s Artist Of The Year as nominations are announced

2025’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) sees Lady Gaga as the front-runner, receiving a total of 12 nominations, which is quite an achievement.

This is the third occasion that the pop icon has led the VMA nominations, an accomplishment unmatched by any other artist in the awards’ history.

Gaga’s impressive performance is matched nearly by Bruno Mars, who received 11 nominations, and Kendrick Lamar, who also garnered 10.

Rosé and Sabrina Carpenter aren’t trailing too much, as they both accumulated eight nominations, which include significant categories such as Best Pop and Artist of the Year.

They’re joined by Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, who both picked up seven nods.

In other categories, Billie Eilish received six nominations, and Charli XCX was nominated for five, including Best Collaboration and Video of the Year awards.

Several prominent musicians received four nominations each, among them are Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus, and Tate McRae.

There are two new categories this year for Best Country and Best Pop Artist.

This year’s Artistry Champion contest is expected to be a fierce competition among Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd.

Up for Best New Artist are Alex Warren, Ella Langley, Gigi Perez, Lola Young, Sombr and The Marías.

In a potential turn of events, Bad Bunny (“Debí Tirar Más Fotos”), Kendrick Lamar (“GNX”), Lady Gaga (“Mayhem”), Morgan Wallen (“I’m the Problem”), Sabrina Carpenter (“Short n’ Sweet”), and The Weeknd (“Hurry Up Tomorrow”) are all strong contenders for the Best Album award.

The announcement of the winners is scheduled for a glamorous event taking place on Sunday, September 7, at the UBS Arena in New York City.

For the very first time, CBS is going to air the awards show simultaneously with MTV, and at the same time, Paramount+ will broadcast it globally for everyone to watch.

Voting is now open via MTV’s official website.
