Fox sets price for its Fox One direct-to-consumer streaming service

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that starting next month, Fox Corporation’s very own streaming platform will be at my fingertips! This service promises an array of news, sports, and entertainment content, all for just $19.99 a month – a deal too good to resist!

Lachlan Murdoch, the head of Fox Corporation, informed financial analysts that they are planning to release a new service named Fox One on August 21st. This service is intended for people who still appreciate Fox’s content but have ceased their pay TV subscriptions.

Fox One offers its subscribers access to their regional Fox TV station as well as Fox’s own networks such as Fox News, Fox Business Network, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Fox Weather, Fox Deportes, and the Big 10 Network.

There will be no original programming produced for the service.

“Our subscriber expectations and aspirations are modest,” Murdoch said.

Murdoch emphasized that starting a streaming platform doesn’t lessen the company’s dedication to traditional cable and satellite broadcasting, as these methods continue to generate substantial income even with viewers shifting towards online streaming.

Despite the diminishing pay TV market, Fox Corporation continues to experience growth in subscription fees from TV providers that air their broadcast and cable channels.

During the latest quarterly earnings report disclosed on Tuesday, there was a 4% increase in subscription revenue for their broadcast stations and a 2% rise for their cable channels. In total, the company generated $3.29 billion in revenue during this period, marking an impressive 6% growth compared to the previous year. Furthermore, their net income nearly doubled, reaching $719 million.

As a film lover, I’ve found a newfound appreciation for Fox News Media’s streaming platform. It seems to have transformed into a haven for captivating passion projects from notable figures who resonate strongly with the red states, such as Martin Scorsese and Kevin Costner.

Murdoch said Fox Corp. is open to marketing Fox One in a bundle of other streaming services.

For Fox One subscribers, there’s a wealth of live events to enjoy, such as Major League Baseball’s regular season games and the World Series, National Football League (NFL) matches, college football and basketball tournaments, the Belmont Stakes horse race, IndyCar races, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Fox One comes at a budget-friendly price, significantly lower than ESPN’s upcoming standalone streaming service that will cost $29.99 per month when it launches later this year. For the first time, The Walt Disney Company is offering ESPN to individuals who do not have cable subscriptions as part of their service.

Presently, Fox’s streaming platforms include the ad-supported service Tubi, responsible for approximately 1% of all television viewing as reported by Nielsen. Furthermore, there is Fox Nation, a subscription-based service run by Fox News Media, boasting around 2 million subscribers.

Currently, Fox has two streaming services – Tubi (an ad-supported one) and Fox Nation (a monthly subscription service operated by Fox News). Tubi contributes about 1% to all TV viewing, while Fox Nation has around 2 million subscribers.

Fox Nation primarily focuses on entertainment and documentary programming, with many Fox News shows becoming available a day after their initial cable broadcast. At first, users can combine Fox One and Fox Nation for a monthly fee of $24.99 or an equivalent of $19.99 per month if they opt for the annual plan upon its launch.
