New Harlan Coben thriller – different to his other big hits in 1 key way – is a must-watch for fans

Harlan Coben‘s upcoming drama, titled “Lazarus,” is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video this fall. Previously, it was announced that a 2025 release window had been planned; however, we can now confirm that the intriguing new series will be available for streaming starting this autumn.

Lazarus narrates the tale of a man returning home following his father’s demise, only to encounter unsettling occurrences that defy logical explanation.

In a whirlwind of events, I find myself drawn into an intricate web of unsolved homicides from the past. As I delve deeper, I can’t help but feel the eerie connection to the enigma surrounding my father’s death and my sister’s murder that occurred a quarter of a century ago.

In this production, Sam Claflin, known for his role in “Peaky Blinders”, assumes the main character. This is another appearance by him on Prime Video, as he was a key player in the hit series “Daisy Jones and The Six” released in 2023. Other recent work of his includes the supernatural horror film “Bagman” and the ongoing period drama “The Count of Monte Cristo”, which is currently streaming.

Bill Nighy will portray his character’s father, while the rest of the cast includes Alexandra Roach, David Fynn, Ewan Horrocks, and Jack Deam. Alexandra Roach is known for her work in “Nightsleeper,” David Fynn from “Daddy Issues,” Ewan Horrocks from “The Last Kingdom,” and Jack Deam has acted in both “The Long Shadow” and “Father Brown.

Roach’s character has been unveiled as Jenna Lazarus. The summary also mentions that she immersed herself in a realm of spiritual pursuits. However, when her brother (Claflin) returns home and encounters inexplicable occurrences, she is compelled to face secrets from her own past due to these events.

Instead of following the pattern seen in Harlan Coben’s previous streaming successes such as “Fool Me Once,” “Missing You,” “Stay Close,” and “The Stranger,” “Lazarus” breaks new ground by being an original television drama, not based on any previously published novel.

Originally, I considered writing this as a novel, but now I envision it more as a television series. There’s a bit of a ghostly vibe to the story, and it’s quite visually striking, as Coben disclosed in an interview with Radio Times.

Fans can look forward to recognizing the same vibe in the series, as the author plans to join forces once more with his long-time creative partner Danny Brocklehurst (known for ‘Brassic’). This duo has a history of collaborating on several successful Netflix productions in the past.

In Manchester, the movie titled Lazarus was shot, and earlier, we caught a sneak peek of Sam Claflin in his role, thanks to photos taken during filming.

The exact launch date for the show hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video this fall.
