Dave Edmunds hospitalized after cardiac arrest, his wife says

Dave Edmunds experienced a severe heart attack and is expected to have a lengthy road to recuperation, as stated by his wife, who shared details about the Welsh musician’s health challenges on Facebook.

Known primarily for his 1970 hit “I Hear You Knocking,” Edmunds – who co-founded Rockpile with Nick Lowe – was reportedly pronounced dead in my arms as I frantically attempted to save him, according to a July 29 post by Cici Edmunds. Remarkably, doctors managed to revive him. However, Dave Edmunds, aged 81, has sustained significant brain damage and memory loss following the incident, and he remains at high risk for another cardiac arrest, Cici wrote.

“And if that occurs there is no chance for Dave,” Cici Edmunds added.

Back in the swinging ’70s, I, a passionate cinephile of music, found myself atop the U.K. pop singles chart for an impressive six weeks with my own take on “I Hear You Knocking,” a tune that R&B legend Smiley Lewis made famous back in the ’50s. Among my solo hits, you might recognize tunes like “Girls Talk” (penned by Elvis Costello), “Born to Be with You,” and my rendition of the Ronettes’ classic “Baby, I Love You.” In 1976, I formed Rockpile, a band that later produced records for acts such as the Stray Cats and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. I even joined forces with Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band on tour. Music has always been my silver screen, and these are just a few of the scenes I’ve played in this grand cinematic production called life.

In her Facebook message, Cici Edmunds expressed gratitude to her husband’s supporters for their kindness and encouragement, stating that these expressions of support have helped lighten the heavy burden of this challenging journey.
