Channel 5 has shared a first look at its “chilling” upcoming British thriller The Rumour.
The new show is based on Lesley Kara’s novel and features Rachel Shenton as Joanna, a motherly role.)
As Joanna and her son Alfie relocate to a tranquil town seeking peace, her suspicions grow towards the local residents upon discovering whispers about a supposed child murderer living among them.
As a gamer, here’s how I might rephrase that: “I stumbled upon an unsettling rumor about a child murderer allegedly living among us in my town. Sharing this info with the local moms was meant to create a bond, but instead, it seems to have unleashed a wave of fear and suspicion.
With whispers escalating and tension mounting, Joanna finds herself drawn into a perilous whirlpool of secrets and accusations. As confidence wanes and fear swiftly spreads, she starts to doubt not just the town’s history but also her own intuition. Who among them is trustworthy? And what might she have to sacrifice to uncover the truth?

Alongside Shelton, the show will feature a stellar lineup that includes Joanne Whalley from “Wolf Hall”, Emily Atack known for her role in “Rivals”, Samuel Anderson famous for his work on “Amandaland”, Carryl Thomas starring in “Silo”, Ellie Haddington who was seen in “Enola Holmes”, Lucy Speed of “Unforgotten”, and Liza Sadovy from “A Real Pain”.
On-screen adaptation by Giula Sandler was lauded with numerous favorable reviews from Kara’s peer authors based on the original novel.
According to author Shari Lapena in her review, everyone will undoubtedly discuss the book titled “The Rumor“. It boasts an engaging plot, a growing feeling of unease, and a surprising twist that readers won’t anticipate.

In this spine-tingling story filled with fear, mistrust, and speculation, Lesley Kara leaves you in suspense until the very last page, as noted by author Paula Hawkins.
Fiona Barton praised the book, commenting that it was an impressive first work featuring a subtly intelligent concept and a thrilling journey right up until the final word.
The Rumour is coming soon to 5.
The latest print issue from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available for purchase! You can find it at your local newsstands or buy it online for only £8.99.
