In just three days, the biographical comedy-drama featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Chaplin, will no longer be available on Prime Video.
The movie follows the life story of Charlie Chaplin, a renowned actor and filmmaker, tracing his humble beginnings marked by poverty in Victorian London, eventually leading him to global fame.
In this movie, skillfully crafted by director Richard Attenborough, it garnered several nominations for both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. Simultaneously, Robert Downey Jr. was awarded the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for his exceptional performance as Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Dan Aykroyd, Geraldine Chaplin, Anthony Hopkins and Marisa Tomei also star.
Currently, Chaplin holds a rating of 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s garnered mixed reviews.
The Independent on Sunday praised Downey, stating that he has an exceptional ability to mimic Chaplin’s accent, from Cockney to affected posh, and a flawless touch for slapstick comedy. However, what he lacks is self-awareness of his own outstanding talent.

According to Empire Magazine, while the movie demonstrates exceptional skill, it lacks many significant or awe-inspiring scenes.
As a gamer, I’d say, “Even though the script might not be perfect, the standout aspect of Chaplin for me is Robert Downey Jr.’s exceptional performance.” The Spectator put it this way.
During an interview with Variety, Downey Jr. shared insights about his character in the 1992 biopic. He explained that playing Chaplin was both a blessing and a tough task as he was only 25 when he began preparing for the role.

After Richard Attenborough took on the director’s role, he became a cinematic Yoda to me. Having him choose me for the part was like receiving an endorsement. The entire experience of filming was simply a transformative journey that year.
At some stage, I set up a one-way glass screen displaying VHS videos of his classic movies. For extended periods spanning weeks and months, I attempted to align his facial expressions with my own and imitated him tirelessly.
Chaplin is currently streaming on Prime Video.
