Magda Szubanski breaks down in tears in moving acceptance speech as she is inducted into the 2025 Logies Hall of Fame

On a Sunday evening, Magda Szubanski choked up while delivering a heartfelt speech during her virtual induction into the Logies Hall of Fame in 2025.

The humorist, aged 64, couldn’t make it to the gathering physically due to her being immunosuppressed during her ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer treatment.

However, the actress who is famously known for her role in Kath and Kim did not let that deter her from making the audience cry with both laughter and sadness as she gracefully received the honor bestowed upon her.

She expressed regret that she wouldn’t be able to attend, explaining that she had a valid reason for being absent, as opposed to her usual preference to stay in her pajamas and not go out.

This time around, I feel it’s important to clarify upfront: The honor bestowed upon me has nothing to do with my having cancer.

She’s receiving this as a result of four decades of tireless effort. Whether through lobbying, bribery, or threats – whatever means were necessary – it has all been worth it in the end, she quipped playfully.

Magda then struggled to contain her emotions as she thanked her friends, fans, and supporters.

As a lifestyle guide, I must say, the outpouring of affection and encouragement I’ve received from the incredible Australians feels like an unstoppable wave, leaving me truly astounded. It’s a heartwarming experience I can’t help but share – it genuinely uplifts me.

‘I did not think I was going to cry,’ she then added as she teared up.

Whenever I log into my online account and read those messages, I always experience a lift in my spirits. It significantly boosts my resilience in facing my cancer battle.

‘So thank you for the love that you are pouring my way, I really feel it.’

A wave of A-list stars stepped out to help induct Magda into the Hall of Fame on Sunday night.

Today on Extra, co-host David Campbell began discussing a segment as Magda, who is Betty’s godmother, takes care of his 7-year-old daughter. (In this version, I aimed to make it more conversational and easier to read.)

Notable personalities such as Hamish Blake, Dannii Minogue, Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, and Poh Ling Yeow were among those who paid their respects in tribute.

Besides numerous others, The Irwins, Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, and Kathy Lette offered heartfelt messages in tribute to the beloved Australian celebrity.

Marg Downey accepted the award on her behalf.

Magda is the fifth woman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since it was introduced in 1984.

She’s now part of an esteemed group that includes Ruth Cracknell, Noni Hazlehurst, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and Rebecca Gibney.

Two months ago, Magda revealed she had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

She made an appearance on camera, showcasing a bald head, following cancer treatments, to announce some startling information.

Greetings everyone, it’s me. Just wanted to let you know that I recently received a diagnosis for a unique, intense, and life-threatening type of lymphoma. As a precaution, I’ve decided to shave my head because there’s a high chance it might start falling out within the next few weeks.

Magda additionally disclosed that she’s begun using a treatment method in Melbourne known as the Nordic protocol for managing mantle cell lymphoma. This procedure reduces tumors by employing a mix of medications given over five stages.

It’s known as the Nordic regimen based on its clinical trial sites in Denmark and Norway.

The actress explained she will be ‘lying very low’ due to her weak immune system.
