Don’t miss! The “Swiss chocolate of romantic comedies” is getting a major reboot

Christmas classic romantic comedy The Holiday is getting a reboot.

According to Variety’s latest reports, the 2006 movie featuring Jack Black, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Kate Winslet is being developed into a restricted TV series for Apple TV+.

According to the article, the movie is planned to stick closely to the initial storyline. Two women – one from Britain and the other from America – intend to exchange homes during Christmas as a means of escaping sadness. However, they unexpectedly discover romance instead.

In this upcoming project, there’s no plan for any of the initial actors to reappear, as it will primarily feature fresh characters. Additionally, the screenwriter and director, Nancy Meyers, will not contribute to this production.

Writer Krissie Ducker known for creating “Sweetpea,” “Killing Eve,” and “The Assassin” is signed up to write the script, while Catastrophe’s Rob Delaney will act as a consultant on this project.

Currently, the project is being worked on and hasn’t received final approval yet. According to Variety, a commission should be granted after the main actors have been chosen.

Although “The Holiday” may not receive high praise from critics, boasting just 51% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, much like its British counterpart “Love Actually,” it is beloved by fans.

One viewer on IMDB expressed their enthusiasm by saying, “There’s so much to admire! The actors are fantastic, the script is touching, the emotional bonds between characters are genuine, and the character development is exceptional in this type of ‘Christmas-feelgood-romance’ movies. Plus, the music adds a fun and enjoyable element.

Filled with more Christmas tunes than you can count, The Holiday offers a cozy, heartwarming romance to immerse yourself in before returning to reality. It may not be deep, but it’s the perfect seasonal escape – a delightful piece of holiday-themed romantic comedies!

Another viewer commented: “If traditional holiday movies filled with an overwhelming amount of Christmas joy leave you feeling queasy, this could be just what you’re looking for. It offers a balance between humor that will make you chuckle and enough substance to maintain audience engagement.

At the moment, you can stream “The Holiday” across platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Sky, and NOW. Unfortunately, there’s no confirmed release date for the reboot yet.

The latest print issue from Digital Spy is available now! You can purchase the Oasis – Live in ’25’ magazine at your local newsstands or online for only £8.99.
