I, as a dedicated fan, am eagerly anticipating the upcoming priorities Marvel Studios has for their Phase 7 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Even though we’re about to witness the grand finale of Phase 6 and the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, studio president Kevin Feige is already peering ahead a few years into the future. For the MCU, which is entering its third decade of storytelling, there are still countless iconic characters waiting in the wings for their moment in the spotlight.
According to Jeff Sneider on the “The Hot Mic” podcast with John Rocha, Marvel Studios has two major films planned following the 2027 release of “Avengers: Secret Wars”. At present, there are four movies (and an undisclosed number of Disney+ series) scheduled for Phase 6, with the highly anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” standing out among them.
As a fan eagerly anticipating the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’m excited to share that phase 7 is tentatively set to commence in 2028. However, no specific movies or Disney+ series have been officially confirmed as part of this phase yet. This new chapter in the MCU’s journey will presumably begin after the premiere of “Avengers: Secret Wars,” scheduled for December 17. This highly anticipated film is expected to serve as a soft reboot for the franchise, marking its approach to its 20th year on screen.
2 MCU Movies Being Prioritized for MCU’s Phase 7
Black Panther 3

Post the Secret Wars, it’s reported that Marvel Studios’ top priority following the Multiverse Saga will be “Black Panther 3”. Although the film hasn’t been officially confirmed, Kevin Feige has hinted at its development. Ryan Coogler is set to direct, and while the cast isn’t finalized yet, Letitia Wright is likely to reprise her role as Shuri, along with many of her co-stars. Hollywood legend Denzel Washington is also confirmed for an unspecified part in the upcoming sequel.
So far, specific details about Black Panther 3 are kept secret, since they’ll probably be impacted by events unfolding in Doomsday and Secret Wars. Notably, Marvel Studios is planning to find a new actor to take over the role of T’Challa from the late Chadwick Boseman. There have been rumors that F1 racing star Damson Idris might be that actor, but he declined to confirm or deny when asked about it in June 2025.
There are whispers suggesting that Black Panther 3 might hit theaters as early as February 2028, potentially kicking off Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But with more than two years until then, a lot remains undecided about this film’s production details to make it a definite reality.
X-Men

It came as no shock that Sneider marked down the upcoming X-Men film by Marvel Studios as a top priority for Phase 7. Presently, Jake Schreier, who is confirmed to direct this movie, will be at the helm. Additionally, Michael Lesslie, well-known for his work on The Hunger Games, is working on the script for the first MCU film centered around the renowned mutant team.
At this moment, the specific storyline for Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men film remains undisclosed. Nevertheless, it is known that they are considering a younger cast for this production. The creative team is also in the initial phases of deciding which actors will portray the mutants when they make their highly anticipated debut in the MCU. As of now, no actors have been assigned to the project, and it’s unlikely that any actors from the previous X-Men series by Fox will reappear.
Regarding the team structure, it appears that Charles Xavier and Professor X are likely to resume their leadership positions once more; there are also whispers about heroes such as Storm, Kitty Pryde, Jubilee, and Jean Grey being part of the squad. On the opposing side of the conflict, names like Mr. Sinister, Senator Robert Kelly, and Bolivar Trask have surfaced in speculations about who will embody the antagonistic roles for Marvel Studios’ mutant characters.
If this X-Men movie moves into production soon (with the script still being penned), there’s a strong possibility that Marvel could claim their traditional May slot for its release in 2028. Given the lengthy anticipation among fans to witness the iconic X-Men under the Marvel Studios banner, this film is likely to generate tremendous excitement and hype within the MCU community for quite some time.
