‘And Just Like That …’ it’s ending with Season 3: ‘A wonderful place to stop’

And Just Like That …” it’s over.

Michael Patrick King, the showrunner of the current third season of “Sex and the City” sequel, announced on social media that this will be the final season. The finale will have a grand, over-the-top feel, fitting Carrie’s character, as it will consist of two parts instead of the original 10 episodes, making it 12 in total. These extra episodes are scheduled to air on HBO Max on August 7 and 14, respectively.

During the process of composing the last episode for ‘And Just Like That …’ Season 3, I realized that this could be an ideal spot to conclude our story. To avoid spoiling the enjoyment of watching the season, Sarah Jessica Parker and I decided to keep the news under wraps until now. With heartfelt appreciation, we express our gratitude to all the viewers who have welcomed these characters into their homes and hearts throughout these years.

‘And Just Like That’ was a train wreck. Here’s what made it unmissable anyway

Let’s discuss why the ‘Sex and the City’ revival missed the mark, and explore what captivated audiences about TV’s portrayal of a unique form of emotional bonding, often referred to as Stockholm syndrome. Here are our insights.

In this version, I tried to make it more conversational and easier for readers to understand the main topic while also providing context for those who might not be familiar with the term “Stockholm syndrome”.

Originally, “Sex and the City,” a TV show that chronicled the lives of four close friends – Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) – made its debut on HBO in 1998. Spanning six seasons, it was the catalyst for two subsequent movies. In a new series, the trio of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte reconnect, inviting viewers to join them as they navigate their middle-aged years in the bustling city of New York.

Since its debut in December 2021, the sequel to the well-known HBO series was like an on-again-off-again relationship that left viewers uncertain. A key member of the friend group was missing (Samantha), and some spectators were perplexed by the new cast members, such as Che Diaz, and alterations in the characters’ behaviors that seemed incongruous to longtime fans who had followed their journey.

Commentary: ‘And Just Like That…’ seems determined to insult women over 50. And under 50

To my disappointment, the revival of HBO’s pioneering series ‘Sex and the City’ seems to have overlooked the opportunity for character growth and development in the main characters and their relationships.

On her Instagram, Parker, the executive producer of “And Just Like That …,” shared a heartfelt, verse-style tribute honoring Carrie and the series.

For 27 years, Carrie Bradshaw has captivated my professional heart. She’s the one I’ve admired more than anyone… MPK and I acknowledged, as we often do, that this chapter has come to a close. Working on AJLT was filled with joy, adventure, intense labor alongside an exceptional team of 380 talented individuals, including every actor who contributed. Each day spent with you made me better, and the memories will remain forever etched in my heart. Thank you all. I cherish you deeply. I hope you enjoy these last two episodes as much as we do.
