If you’re seeking a gripping 2022 spy thriller that could potentially mend the void left by “Black Doves,” I’m delighted to inform you it’s now streaming in the UK!
Last year, I stumbled upon the captivating French-Canadian series titled “Classified” (originally known as “Classé secret”). Now, you can catch it streaming on Channel 4’s very own platform!
A ten-episode suspense series focuses on married undercover agents, Rachel (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin) and Émile (Patrick Labbé). Their mission involves probing into a lethal gun attack that occurred close to the U.S. embassy in Montreal.
The tranquil routine they had at home gets disrupted when they stumble upon hints suggesting a CIA spy embedded in their own agency, the imaginatively named Secret Services of Canada (SSC).
At the SSC, Adrien McKenna (Andreas Apergis) has grown suspicious that Rachel might be a spy, and he tasks Emile with looking into the matter concerning his spouse.
In the story, as mutual trust fades, the pair finds themselves facing conflicting allegiances and escalating perils.
In their quest for the truth, they find themselves right in the thick of a global spy game, where individual and national agendas clash dramatically.
The show “Classified” got a fresh start for another round, debuting in 2023, 18 months following the initial season’s conclusion. In this new season, we find ourselves continuing the storyline after the CIA’s mole was unmasked and shifting the focus to North Africa, specifically the region known as Maghreb.
At the moment, Season 2 hasn’t been released in the UK because it has only been broadcasted in Canada and Australia so far.
In the realm of suspenseful spy stories, ITV unveiled a sneak peek at the upcoming Manchester-based espionage series titled “Betrayal,” featuring Shaun Evans, who starred in “Vigil.” This series is scheduled for release in early 2026.
In a different rendition, Evans portrays the role of John Hughes, a disgruntled MI5 operative. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Ehsan, a British-Iranian individual who claims to possess information about a potential threat lurking on British soil.
When Ehsan is put to death, John takes it upon himself to avenge Ehsan by killing the executioner, an act that sets off a chain of events causing doubt about John’s allegiances. In order to clear his name and make amends, John must delve further into Ehsan’s past history.
