Actor Neal McDonough, known for his role in Yellowstone, mentioned that turning down romantic scenes with anyone other than his spouse potentially hindered his success in Hollywood.
In the latest episode of the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, the seasoned entertainer, aged 59, candidly discussed a prolonged period of struggle that he attributed to his unwavering commitment to his marriage’s principles.
The Boston-born actor explained to the podcast hosts, Tim Green and Troy Green, that it had been a rule in his contracts not to kiss another woman while acting on screen.
McDonough played the role of Malcolm Beck on six episodes of Yellowstone which aired in 2019.
Titles in the list could be rephrased as follows:
1. The Overwhelming Odor of Despair
2. Last Remaining Fiends
3. The Red-Stained Youth
4. The Rebirth’s Day
5. All That Lies Behind Us is Ash and Sins of Yesteryears
McDonough made it clear that the contractual requirement was initiated by him, rather than his wife, Ruve McDonough, whom he has been married to since 2003 and together they have five children.

McDonough expressed that the issue wasn’t with his wife; instead, he was the one who had reservations about it. This individual is recognized for appearances on television series like Desperate Housewives, Tulsa King, and Suits featuring Meghan Markle.
As a devoted follower, I can attest that McDonough made it abundantly clear that his demands were no joke, yet unfortunately, Hollywood producers didn’t quite grasp the gravity of the situation. However, once they realized my sincerity, they promptly ceased collaborating with me.
According to McDonough, when he declined to kiss other women in front of the cameras, it became difficult for them to comprehend his decision. As a result, Hollywood turned against him, and he was no longer welcome on the show.
‘For two years, I couldn’t get a job and I lost everything you could possibly imagine.’
McDonough, who has appeared in films like Star Trek: First Contact, Red 2, and Guns & Moses, stated that the absence of work led to a chain reaction, causing all that was precious to him to slowly fade away.
In simpler terms, McDonough stated that it’s not only physical possessions like homes and belongings, but also your unique personality traits, style, individuality, and self-image that define you. He identified himself as an actor, specifically a very skilled one.
McDonough said that the problems lingered for an extended period.

‘Once you don’t have that identity, you’re kind of lost in a tailspin,’ McDonough said.
‘And I was in a big, ugly tailspin for a couple of years.’
In his latest venture, McDonough was involved both as a writer and the main actor in the movie “The Last Rodeo,” released last May, where he portrayed the character Joe Wainwright.
In the movie, his character’s wife, Rose Wainwright, was played by his real-life partner, Ruvé, and they shared a kiss on screen.
Before taking on her role, Ruvé – hailing from South Africa – boasted experience in both fashion modeling and film production.
Besides Mykelti Williamson, Sarah Jones, Graham Harvey, and Christopher McDonald, the rodeo storyline featured prominently as well.
