Calling Doctor Who fans! This “action-packed” Dalek movie with Bernard Cribbins is on TV today

Fans of Doctor Who, get ready! The 1966 science fiction film “Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.”, featuring Peter Cushing and Bernard Cribbins, is being broadcast today (Wednesday, July 30) on Film4 at 4:50 p.m.

The movie, created by the BBC, is marketed as a follow-up to the 1965 film “Dr. Who and the Daleks.” Actors Ray Brooks, Roberta Tovey, and Jill Curzon complete the cast ensemble.

According to an IMDb user, this movie is described as a thrilling adventure, where it depicts the renowned Time Lord (Cushing) and his associates, including Special Constable Tom Campbell (Cribbins), arriving on Earth in the year 2150 AD. They discover that Daleks have taken over and oppressed the majority of the population.

As a gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on the buzz surrounding this sci-fi movie, and here’s what I’ve gathered: It currently boasts a rating of 69% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Times, a renowned publication, described it as a superbly crafted, visually stunning piece of futuristic nonsense, specifically set in London, 1400 years from now in the year 2150.

The Independent remarked that there was a abundance of energy and grandiose music, yet lacking refinement and quality writing.

Simultaneously, Empire Magazine enthusiastically commented: “It boasts a half-luxurious widescreen aesthetic, an imaginative blend of World War II and sci-fi storytelling, catchy theme music, a magnificent UFO landing in Sloane Square, and thrilling action sequences.

Cribbins, playing Tom Campbell, has a deep-rooted connection with the Doctor Who series, dating back 41 years to his role in Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. Remarkably, he was chosen for the part of Wilfred Mott, granddad to Donna Noble, in 2007, following his passing.

In a unique interview with Digital Spy back in 2013, Cribbins shared his thoughts: “It was delightful to revisit the Doctor and his kin when I landed the role in Cardiff alongside David Tennant. I found him exceptional; he was indeed one of my top-notch Doctors, undoubtedly – I’d say he and Tom Baker were likely my favorites if I had to pick just a couple.

In July 2022, Cribbins, who later passed away, featured in his last TV appearance on episode two of the Doctor Who‘s 60th-anniversary special, titled ‘Wild Blue Yonder’. This episode was broadcast five months following his demise and was subsequently dedicated to him.

Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. airs on Film4 at 4.50pm on Wednesday, 30 July.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy is out! Grab your copy of “Oasis – Live in ’25” from newsstands or online, currently available for only £8.99.
