Julia Garner says Madonna Biopic is happening, reveals how she was cast

The 31-year-old actress, fresh from her role as the Silver Surfer in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, shared details regarding the upcoming Madonna biopic and clarified its current status.

Julia Garner recently appeared on the SmartLess podcast with hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes. During their conversation, she discussed details about the upcoming biopic and mentioned that it’s still set to take place. She also spoke highly of the 66-year-old singer and shared her story of being cast as the music icon.

The actor playing Weapons exclaimed, “I’ve always been a big Madonna fan. In fact, she was part of my childhood soundtrack. When I heard they were making a movie about her life, I thought I’d give it a shot. I didn’t have much formal dance training, so I had to learn and then perform in front of her, trying to prove that I could dance and sing alongside her!

Garner also stated, “What would Madonna do? She’d make us believe she belongs here. And I did just that. I took ownership and stood firm. Essentially, I said, ‘You can either accept me or not, but if you reject me, the responsibility lies with you.’

In 2022, Julia Garner became part of the Madonna biopic project. Unfortunately, production on the film was eventually halted. Yet, work on the highly anticipated biopic, tentatively named “Who’s That Girl,” resumed again in 2024.
