Liverpool and England footballer’s daughter lands lead role as Katniss Everdeen in the first ever stage adaptation of The Hunger Games

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the daughter of the esteemed former Liverpool and England footballer, Jamie Carragher, Mia, is making her mark by leading the cast in the groundbreaking live stage debut of “The Hunger Games.

On October 20th, the 21-year-old actress is set to take on the role of Katniss Everdeen, a character previously portrayed by Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, at the Troubadour Theatre located within London’s Canary Wharf area for her first performance.

On landing the coveted part, Mia said: ‘I am so excited and honoured to be playing Katniss. 

‘This is a dream-come-true role, and I cannot wait to see the production come to life.

I’m ecstatic about my involvement in the Hunger Games universe, given that I’ve always been a passionate movie fan. Working alongside Matthew Dunster and an exceptional creative crew is simply fortunate for me.

During this time, director Matthew Dunster, renowned for his work on 2:22 – A Ghost Story, Hangmen, and The Pillowman, stated, “We scoured extensively, leaving no stone unturned, to find our version of Katniss.

It’s challenging to immerse oneself in the captivating world Suzanne Collins has built, but a single actor was able to encapsulate both Katniss’s charm and battle prowess – her quiet resilience, sharp intellect, physical agility, and wit.

‘We’ve found our Katniss in Mia Carragher, and we can’t wait for audiences to see her.’

In simple terms, Conor McPherson has reworked the stage play based on both Suzanne Collins’ popular book and Lionsgate’s successful movie.

Mia honed her skills not only at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts but also underwent further training at The Lee Strasberg Theatre.

She’s quite familiar with work on set, as she has acted in the independent movie “One Night in Istanbul,” the Channel 4 production “The Gathering,” and is slated to appear in the upcoming Playground Entertainment series “Maigret.

Upon learning the remarkable news, Mia contacted her parents via Facetime. Her mother wept proudly, while her father, Jamie, gleamed with enthusiasm.

The well-known ex-Premier League player, who is married to Nicola and has children Mia and James, announced on Instagram that he is incredibly proud, saying: ‘I’m overflowing with pride as you make your first stage appearance as Katniss Everdeen, Mia!’

The tale of The Hunger Games revolves around Katniss Everdeen, a youthful woman, who bravely steps forward to compete in a lethal, broadcasted battle for survival, standing in for her sister.

Battling against elite-trained rivals, she must rely on instinct, grit and courage to survive.

On the show’s official page, a backstage video was shared, in which Mia could be seen saying, “I am Mia Carragher, and I’ll be taking on the role of Katniss Everdeen.

I am thoroughly looking forward to portraying Katniss, as I find many similarities between us. She exhibits great courage, yet there’s an underlying tender side to her nature as well, which resonates with me.
