Ruth Wilson’s Oxford-set thriller based on “superb” story confirms release date with first look

Apple TV+ has officially announced the launch date for their forthcoming Oxford-based mystery series, “Down Cemetery Road”. They’ve also unveiled some initial photos of the upcoming production.

In my gaming world, I recently stumbled upon an exciting adaptation titled “Down Cemetery Road,” which was brilliantly penned by Morwenna Banks based on Mick Herron’s novel of the same name. In this captivating tale, I find myself joining forces with the talented Ruth Wilson, known for her role in Luther, and the equally remarkable Emma Thompson, who stole our hearts in Love Actually.

In a peaceful neighborhood on the outskirts of Oxford, a house suddenly blows up, leading to a young girl’s disappearance. Neighbor Sarah Tucker (Wilson) becomes determined to locate her and recruits the assistance of private detective Zoë Boehm (Thompson).

Zoë and Sarah unexpectedly discover themselves caught up in an intricate plot that unveils the shocking truth: some individuals thought to be deceased are actually alive, while many more appear to be on their way to the afterlife.

Unveiling the initial snapshots of “Down Cemetery Road” today, Apple TV+ provided a sneak peek of the two main actors portraying their characters.

Today, Apple TV+ unveiled the first photos from the set of “Down Cemetery Road.” These images offered a glimpse at the two leading actors in their respective roles.

One photo shows Wilson and Thompson side by side on a sandy shore, both expressing surprise. In another shot, it seems that Wilson’s wife, Sarah, is engrossed in a project at her art workshop.

The eight-part thrilling series is all set to launch worldwide on Apple TV+. The premiere will take place on October 29th (Wednesday), with the first two episodes airing then. Subsequent new episodes will be released every Wednesday, ending on December 10th.

In the critique of Herron’s book by Publisher’s Weekly, they praised the story as an exceptionally engaging thriller featuring finely crafted characters. Their final remark was that Herron could very well be the most skillful, and subtly intelligent, thriller author writing in English at present.

According to The Daily Telegraph, this debut novel is convincingly realistic due to its strong character development, engaging dialogue, and skillfully crafted plot progression. The New York Times remarks that Mick Herron does not follow the typical formula when telling a suspense story.

The streamer isn’t adapting the very first book by John le Carré (Herron) for a series, but instead, they are joining the popular espionage drama “Slow Horses” on Apple TV+ with their new production.

According to “Slough Horses,” a book series by Herron, and featuring Gary Oldman, the highly praised drama (which Banks also contributes to as a writer) has been given another season, marking its seventh.

Down Cemetery Road will premiere on Apple TV+ on 29 October.
