While Reed has led the team in the comics, certain factors make this seem improbable within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Why Reed Richards can’t be the new Avengers leader in Doomsday

In the MCU, Reed Richards is a complex and unique character compared to previous portrayals. Unlike being an obvious leader, he serves as the intellectual backbone of the Fantastic Four, more like a family’s wise advisor. The leadership roles among the team members vary, with each stepping up at different times, rather than Reed holding the reins consistently.

Reed appears to be quite pessimistic and lacks the qualities typically associated with leadership in the film. For instance, during a statement about Galactus, he utters something that creates widespread panic, which raises questions about his suitability to step into the roles of Iron Man or Captain America as the leader of the Avengers.

In response to speculation that he might take over as team leader following Matt Shakman’s comments about his potential role, Pascal has clarified this is not part of his character’s planned trajectory, according to a recent interview with the Associated Press.

In a recent post on X (previously Twitter), industry insider @MyTimeToShineH stated that “Sam and Yelena appear to be heading the teams.” Given their roles as established leaders within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this alignment seems fitting based on their past performances in previous films.

Alternatively, it’s suggested that Thor could be the one assuming this role. Among the characters, he seems most fit for the task. Being an original Avenger and one of the strongest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Thor has demonstrated his capability to handle such responsibility. Moreover, his growth over time suggests he’s now ready to step into this position.
