Pregnant Liz McClarnon, 44, reveals the toll of undergoing eight rounds of IVF in three years that left her ‘broken, gaining weight, and living in hope’

Liz McClarnon, who is pregnant, shared a heartfelt account with her fans about the challenging process she went through for three years, enduring eight cycles of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to conceive.

The famous member of Atomic Kitten, who shared in May that she’s going to be a mother at 44, discussed how she managed through the hormonal fluctuations she experienced.

The process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) typically spans approximately three to six weeks, with hormonal medications serving a vital function. These medications help stimulate the ovaries to yield several eggs and ready the uterus for the embryo’s successful implantation.

On Monday, Liz shared a collection of photos on Instagram that spanned several years, providing insights into her medical treatments alongside husband Peter Cho, and disclosing the adverse effects she experienced from the prescribed medications.

Liz titled the video: “Following eight rounds of IVF over a span of three years, it’s safe to say that I’ve spent more time on hormones than off.

‘I just wanted to share how it can look. Sometimes normal and sometimes very not.’

In the beginning of Liz’s video, she appeared exhausted and pondered, “you can often tell,” followed by a lively scene of herself labeled, “but sometimes it’s not so easy to discern.

Later on, she posted a video showing Peter assisting her during their initial IVF procedure with the injections, noting that ‘normal life continued’ or simply ‘everyday life went on’.

In my experience as a lifestyle advisor, I found myself admitting, “As the routine persisted and I required additional injections, I couldn’t help but notice an increase in my weight… Yet somehow, it seemed less significant.

Yet she admitted she ended up feeling ‘a little bit broken’ as the cycle continued.

The video subsequently displayed Liz getting her last shot, followed by a visit to the fertility clinic for one final time. She was captured on camera with an expression of optimism.

In the early stages of their relationship, Liz and Peter embarked on an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) process, with Liz mentioning that they were mindful of her age, being 40 years old when they first met.

In 2022, three unsuccessful embryo transfers left a significant emotional and physical impact on Liz. As she looked back on the experience, she told The Mirror, “I had hoped that first time would be the one.

However, by the third iteration, it was strikingly distinct. Yet when that attempt failed, I found myself in a deep pit of illness and despair.

I gained a significant amount of weight, yet I was hesitant to share the reason behind it. I didn’t wish for the IVF treatment to define me or overshadow other aspects of my character.

Instead of rushing into their 2023 wedding, the couple opted for a brief hiatus, only to attempt it once more later. However, as 2024 drew to a close, they endured two devastating miscarriages after their initial fruitful cycles.

Liz explained how she felt she was ‘done’ after the last loss and Peter supported her decision.

Peter fully agreed with that idea; he didn’t offer any objections but instead said, “This is your decision and I’ll back you whatever choice you make,” which was a significant gesture for me. Emotionally, it was a tough time for me, and this show of support meant a lot.

Following a heartwarming Christmas reunion at home in Liverpool, they chose to make another attempt, and delightfully discovered that she was carrying a new life come the New Year.

In May, she made the announcement openly, posting a video showing herself seated on a park bench, then casually revealing her growing belly by turning around.

In the video, she confessed: “I’ve hidden something from you, and I’ve largely avoided social media since it wasn’t always easy for me to find reasons to smile.

After enduring years filled with at times agonizing IVF treatments and periods of deep sadness, I am now expecting a child! It feels as though we have been blessed beyond measure.

Liz titled her post: “Initially, I intended to share a video where I spoke casually with you, but my emotions took over, so I opted for this brief notice instead.

I find it hard to comprehend that we’ve made it this far. Countless others have faced challenges similar to mine, if not more severe. ❤️

I’d like to contribute my knowledge, thoughts, and empathy to the conversations surrounding IVF and loss, joining those who are already offering support and understanding during this challenging time.

‘I’ve been a part of some beautifully supportive communities. I’m so grateful.’

In June of 2024, Liz unveiled that her spouse was Peter during their initial anniversary celebration.

On her social media stories, the secretive songstress shared a couple of candid moments with her dashing husband, revealing his face which had earlier been hidden behind confetti in their wedding picture.

Next to a photo of Peter basking in sunlight, Liz posted: ‘Can you believe it? A full year of being married to my soulmate, Peter Cho! I adore you, Peter!’

They got married in the Lake District, where Natasha Hamilton, a past bandmate of Liz, was among the guests.
