Many Prime Video subscribers have been praising “The Assassin” for its exhilarating high-stakes thriller, with Keeley Hawes in the leading role.
On Friday (25 July), I found myself quickly propelling Harry and Jack Williams’s series to the pinnacle of Amazon Prime Video’s television rankings. In a matter of days, FlixPatrol has placed it above “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and “Ballard”, leaving me utterly captivated by its swift rise in popularity.
As a gamer, I find myself immersed in a six-part thriller where I step into the shoes of Julie, a retired assassin, basking in tranquility on a picturesque Greek island. The serene atmosphere is disrupted when I cross paths with my long-lost son Edward (Freddie Highmore), who’s on a quest to uncover the truth about his father and my past as a hitwoman.
But as it turns out, the mother and son pair could face peril when they’re pursued by an individual linked to Julie’s past, suggesting that Edward might have been better off keeping his curiosity in check.
In our glowing five-star review for the show published by Digital Spy, we praised The Assassin as a bold and innovative approach to the genre, unlike anything we had encountered previously. We were particularly impressed with Hawes’s captivating central performance, which truly stood out among the rest.

As a dedicated gamer, I delve deeper than just the flashy action sequences. I slice through the layers to uncover the heart of the game, which is a profound examination of womanhood in a realm primarily dominated by males.
The series received a lot of positive praise, not just from us. Currently, it boasts an impressive 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on seven reviews. Additionally, its user score on IMDb is relatively high at 6.2 out of 10, after receiving feedback from 685 reviews.
As a dedicated gamer, I can relate to the fervor that’s swept over fans of this show. Just like completing an epic quest in my favorite game, I was left reeling when I reached its conclusion. I couldn’t help but express my feelings on Instagram, sharing that I was “devastated” to have finished it.

I watched episode 1 last night and really enjoyed it, particularly the witty sarcasm. Another viewer echoed my sentiments, while yet another described the show as incredibly captivating.
One viewer devoured all six installments within a single day, whereas another enthusiastically praised the intricate handling of multiple storylines as being “woven together.
