Robin Williams’ Mrs. Doubtfire costar shares bizarre wish to bring him back using AI… a decade after his death

Nearly three decades since the release of Mrs. Doubtfire, one of its actors aims to pay tribute to Robin Williams using contemporary methods.

Matthew Lawrence, who was part of the Hillard family in the beloved 1993 comedy, expressed during a recent Comic-Con event that he wishes to see the legendary comedian’s iconic voice utilized as a base for artificial intelligence, given the approval of his family.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lawrence expressed his heartfelt desire to create something extraordinary using the legendary voice he knows is iconic for many. He emphasized that this would be done only after securing approval and respecting the family’s wishes.

At the age of 45 now, Lawrence had already made a memorable appearance alongside Williams at the tender age of 12, in the popular movie that depicted a loving father who donned a Scottish nanny costume to remain near his children following a divorce.

The memories, Lawrence said, have stayed with him ever since.

In 2014, at the age of 63, I tragically lost my life to suicide, but the laughter, warmth, and timeless characters I created continue to resonate across generations. With deep affection,

Lawrence

Not only because I was acquainted with him, collaborated with him, and thus it’s ingrained in my memory—it’s universally known. It would be fantastic,” the Mary Christmas star conveyed, expressing his excitement.

Reflecting on an intriguing connection, I found myself reminiscing about an iconic commercial featuring a renowned actor from yesteryears. As I observed, I couldn’t help but draw captivating parallels between the scenes and our modern lifestyle, offering valuable insights for today.

Lawrence described an ad as having a forward-looking, up-to-date feel, similar to a contemporary commercial. In this ad, there was a digital voiceover which left a lasting impression on him.

After his death, when the AI was introduced, I thought to myself, ‘What a perfect fit for him to be the voice of AI! He should lend his voice to something like this.’ Indeed, it’s something I’d love to see happen.

Previously, during an interview, Lawrence reminisced about the valuable life lessons he absorbed from Williams while working together on the set of Mrs. Doubtfire. Among these lessons was the importance of showing kindness.

‘He truly defined what it means to be a genuine artist for me, as he was undeniably the most exceptional artist I’ve collaborated with.’

Moreover, he displayed compassion and humility, yet he too wrestled with certain challenges.

Concerning the forthcoming graphic novel, the siblings – Matthew, aged 49, Joey, and Andy, 37 – are collecting funds through Kickstarter for this venture.

The idea originated approximately a decade back, following an unpleasant sunburn that Matthew experienced, which eventually caused him to peel.

‘These two guys started making a joke that I was a lizard…’

Andy interjected, “Matt transformed into a different self,” he said, “and later, this altered self became the wicked antagonist who created chaos…

Matthew retrieved it from that point, remarking, ‘That’s when we decided to establish our own private investigation firm to crack the case.’

They’ve joined forces with The Berkowitz Brothers, seasoned professionals in this field, as well as artists Brian Bengal Yuran and Sean Von Gorman.

2023 saw Zelda, the daughter of Williams, expressing her disapproval towards the application of artificial intelligence aimed at recreating her father’s voice.

She stated on her Instagram story that she is not a neutral party in the battle led by SAG (Screen Actors Guild) against AI. For quite some time now, she has observed that numerous individuals aim to train these artificial models to produce or recreate actors who cannot give consent, similar to Dad.

Zelda stated, “This isn’t just hypothetical; it’s incredibly real. I’ve learned that AI is being utilized to make his ‘voice’ say whatever people desire, and although it unsettles me personally, the implications stretch much further than my personal feelings.
