Latitude festival delays the start of Elbow set as they close the stage for fans to watch Lionesses scream to victory in tense penalty shoot out
Elbow postponed the beginning of their Latitude festival performance to allow fans to catch the Women’s European Championship final on Sunday afternoon.
The Lionesses emerged triumphant as European champions following an exhilarating, tense penalty shootout where they overcame Spain by a score of 3-1.
Festival attendees didn’t have to choose between the closing performance and the final event, as the main stage was closed so they could enjoy both without missing either.
In the course of the game broadcast, the commentator shared that the rock group paused their concert so spectators could catch the England final instead.
Speaking with X, someone described the scene where people huddled together, surrounding a screen, eagerly watching the game unfold. They even set up portable chairs to enhance their viewing experience.

Elbow are the penultimate act of the day with Snow Patrol set to headline.
Following a challenging 120-minute match against the World Cup champions, the English team erupted in joyous celebration after maintaining composure during penalty shots.
Once more, it was Chloe Kelly who netted the winning goal by calmly converting a vital penalty kick, all thanks to two fantastic stops made by goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.
England won the shootout 3-1 after an initial scare when Beth Mead slipped on the opening kick.
Enthusiastic fans climbed onto tables, brandished flags, sprayed beverages in celebration, and embraced passionately as England emerged victorious. Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer looked on from the stadium in Basel, Switzerland.
Spectators adorned with England flags stood alongside the Prince of Wales and his daughter, Princess Charlotte, placing their hands over their heads in dismay, as Mariona Caldentey scored a goal for Spain, making it 1-0 just before halftime.
Fortunately, Alessia Russo, Arsenal’s striker, skillfully redirected Chloe Kelly’s pass towards the goal at the 57th minute. This action filled Lionesses fans with excitement as it brought the score level.

At the stadium, the Prince of Wales, a patron of the Football Association (FA), along with Charlotte, respectfully acknowledged the national anthem. Notably, Sir Keir Starmer and his spouse, Victoria, were present alongside them during this event.
Ahead of the Women’s Euro Final, the Band of the Grenadier Guards played Three Lions on the Buckingham Palace courtyard. Meanwhile, the royal family’s official account expressed their good wishes to the @Lionesses team, saying: ‘We’re rooting for you in tonight’s final!’
