Millie Mackintosh reveals how her pet dog Luna has aided her sobriety after spending years battling alcohol issues
In my personal journey, I’ve found an unexpected ally in helping me maintain sobriety – my beloved canine companion. Just like Millie Mackintosh shared, for years I too struggled with alcohol issues, but my dog has become a beacon of hope and resilience on my path to recovery.
Previously known for her appearances on “Made In Chelsea,” the 35-year-old individual has candidly discussed her alcohol problems and embarked on sobriety in 2022. Since then, she has penned a book chronicling her hardships, titled “Bad Drunk.”
In a recent chat with The Sunday Times, I’ve shared that having my beloved pug, Luna, in my life has provided an extra source of devotion for me.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d rephrase that: “Instead of groaning over a hangover, when you own a dog, you’ll find yourself starting your day with a refreshing stroll by the river or connecting with fellow dog owners.
With Luna by my side, I find it easier to engage in conversations, as I sometimes struggle with social interactions. It turns out that sharing a common interest – our dogs – provides a natural conversation starter.
Millie, wife of ex-co-star from Made In Chelsea Hugo Taylor and mother of two girls, confessed that she hardly sees herself as the person she once was when she posted an old, slightly tipsy photo on Instagram, sharing her experiences candidly.

She has been abstaining from alcohol for over two years, after recognizing that her drinking had turned into an “aggressive” habit.
Initially, Millie’s storylines on the series frequently centered around socializing, alcohol consumption, and conflicts with other characters, which she later asserted hindered her personal connections.
Millie continues to spread the message about the positive impact of a sober lifestyle on her life. She penned down her thoughts as ‘Then and Now’.
Reflecting on the past decade, I scarcely resemble the individual I once was – consumed by heavy drinking, frequently hungover, and utterly adrift.
I found myself trapped in a loop of self-medication, oblivious to the fact that the transformation I yearned for was just beyond the threshold of discomfort.
Opting for a lifestyle without alcohol has proven to be the most rewarding choice I’ve made thus far. This switch represents the ultimate life trick, as it has enabled me to recognize my personal strength in saying “no.
Instead of choosing sobriety out of obligation, I see it as an opportunity. It’s not a sacrifice, but rather a precious gift that I’ve bestowed upon myself. A gift that I will always cherish and never take lightly.
Experiencing my transformation from an alcoholic to sobriety has undeniably been the most life-changing event I’ve encountered. Knowing that many of you are walking the same path fills me with immense gratitude.

Reflecting on your insights regarding my book and sharing your personal experiences stirs within me a profound sense of why our dialogue carries such significance. As a lifestyle guide, I’m continually reminded that our shared journey toward enrichment is not only valuable but also deeply meaningful.
If you find yourself struggling with a similar situation, remember that you don’t have to face it on your own. We’re going through this together. Can you share how you’re feeling about your personal path at the moment? Let’s have a conversation about it. 🌟
Millie chose to consult a sobriety advisor, who assisted her, and she’s been alcohol-free for over two years now.
