What has happened to Daniel Kaluuya? British star has barely appeared on the big screen since winning an Oscar, sparking outlandish claims he’s ‘joined a cult’ after he was linked to ‘spiritual adviser’ called Heir Holiness

He is the initial Black British actor to receive an Oscar, and he’s widely recognized as the exceptional talent of his time.

Lately, Daniel Kaluuya is once more generating buzz in Tinseltown, however, it’s not due to his performances, rather an old, unsavory gossip that reappeared online concerning the scarcity of his appearances on the silver screen following his Academy Award win.

Born in Camden and catapulted into fame following his 2021 Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in Judas And The Black Messiah, this actor has been noticeably absent from the spotlight, causing some to wonder why he hasn’t reached the same level of stardom as an A-lister like Idris Elba.

When someone on social media platform X expressed regret that Kaluuya hadn’t been in more big-budget films, another user responded by saying: ‘He chose to join an exclusive group.’

The post was viewed 24million times before it was finally taken down.

However, the conversation ignited a buzz on social media about ‘Daniel Kaluuya and cult’ – reviving the whispers that initially arose during the production of his film Nope, following his win at the Oscars.

In the past, numerous American media outlets such as the New York Post and The Hollywood Reporter associated me with an intriguing figure known as Heir Holiness, whose real name is Vanylla Salimah Mahmoud. This vibrant individual presented herself as a spiritual guide and life strategist, even claiming to manage my career at one point.

According to the initial accounts shared by close associates, it was revealed that Kaluuya severed ties with Creative Artists Agency, dismissed his representatives, and hinted at worries regarding the level of control exerted by a certain spiritual figure in his life.

Matthew Belloni, a renowned Hollywood journalist, mentioned that the team behind Nope felt apprehensive about the woman who identified as a ‘spiritual gangster’, as there were worries she may have exerted too much influence over him.

Over the past week, following the renewed speculation, a Hollywood executive acquainted with Kaluuya stated that he hasn’t vanished but rather is engrossed in pursuing his own interests. The executive further remarked: ‘Daniel has consistently chosen his own path, deviating from the typical trajectory.’

Following his Oscar win, people expected him to star in massive blockbusters. However, his subsequent movie was ‘Nope’, and ever since, he has devoted much of his time to working on smaller films and also writing and serving as an executive producer.

Certainly, at present, Kaluuya is engaged in shooting the third installment of the Spider-Verse animated movie series. Moreover, he’s actively working on a live-action adaptation featuring the iconic kids’ character, Barney, the purple dinosaur.

Currently, he’s managed by a prominent Hollywood agency, William Morris Endeavor, and his creative ventures, both as a writer and director, are numerous, stemming from his production company, 59%.

In the coming month, the actor, who grew up in a north London housing complex under the care of his lone Ugandan mother, will additionally lead a drama workshop for aspiring young performers at London’s Roundhouse Theatre, which was his initial stepping stone.

In the year 2017, his career-defining moment occurred in the movie titled “Get Out,” a chilling blend of horror and suspense that centers around a young African American man who finds himself ensnared in a horrifying ordeal during a trip to the opulent family home of his white girlfriend.

In the UK, he had already achieved stardom through roles on television series like Skins and brief appearances on Doctor Who and Black Mirror. However, it was his role in Get Out that garnered him his initial nominations for an Oscar and a BAFTA in the category of best actor.

Kaluuya has never disputed his connection to Heir Holiness, but in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he addressed the baseless rumors about him being part of a cult. He stated, “It made me realize I was in a fame paradigm. An unsubstantiated, unidentified source holds more credibility than what is actually spoken and the reality of the situation. Essentially, ‘Wow, so many people decided it’s happening, then it happened?’ And it’s like, well, that’s not how things truly unfolded.

Regarding Her Holiness, when The Mail on Sunday recently spoke with her at her Las Vegas apartment, she referred to the actor as “family.” When inquired about why he didn’t follow a conventional path to stardom, she expressed: “Daniel isn’t an everyday item you wash and put away. He’s unique. It’s sad that not everyone appreciates this, but Daniel isn’t your typical actor who needs to make a film every year. He transcends that.

Upon being questioned about the gossip surrounding a cult, she broke into laughter and responded: “I have nothing to do with such activities. It’s all fabricated. The whole thing was quite startling. Someone seems to have been playing dangerous games, attempting to cause harm, but they ultimately failed.

In the ongoing game, he was a significant figure. They had an inclination towards causing trouble with someone. They were seeking reasons for frustration. I had no part in Daniel’s affairs. Their anger escalated when he failed to comply with their wishes. Those of lighter complexion often hold unique views on life.

In the movie set, it was evident that one individual took issue with me. Regardless, my primary focus was ensuring his well-being and safety, enabling him to perform optimally in his role.

‘He’s my family. All of it is fake.’
