Now That Lilo & Stitch 2 Is Coming, The Cast Told Me One Thing They All Agree Should Be In The Sequel
Following the success of Lilo & Stitch, raking in over a billion dollars at global box offices, it’s hardly surprising that a live-action sequel is now in the works. Interestingly, it seems the original creator and voice artist, Chris Sanders, will be responsible for scripting this new adventure. At San Diego Comic-Con, we had the opportunity to speak with the cast, gathering their thoughts on what they’d like to see in the upcoming sequel. Surprisingly, there’s one character they all agree they’re eager to explore further in the next film.
In my recent sit-down with the talented trio of Maia Kealoha, Sydney Agudong, and Tia Carrere, I couldn’t help but express my delight at the heartwarming development of Nani and David’s relationship being confirmed as a genuine romance, with Nani embarking on her college journey. Here’s an insightful perspective shared by Agudong regarding this touching evolution:
“It was truly special to bring that romantic aspect between Nani and David to life. It adds depth and authenticity to their characters, reflecting the growth and changes that happen in real relationships over time.” – Sydney Agudong (Nani)
After giving it some thought, I must admit I’m quite thrilled. In my opinion, Nani and David are incredibly cute. To put it simply, they strike me as an ideal pairing. Granted, the future is unpredictable, but I truly believe that they make a remarkable team for a reason. They’re an iconic duo, if you ask me!
In the initial film, Nani and David stand out significantly, as it is evident that David harbors affection for Nani. He demonstrates his concern for her well-being by assisting her in job searches, and there’s also a memorable scene where he proposes a family surfing trip after she loses her latest job – a gesture that underscores his support and care for her.
In the real-life film version, a scene occurs where Nani and David share a kiss just before she departs for San Diego, hinting at a potential romantic relationship between them. And, Agudong can’t help but be thrilled by this developing romance.
They are an ideal balance of yin and yang without a doubt. I can’t wait to delve into such a relationship, particularly from a fan perspective in the sequel, as their dynamic unfolds. It would pique my curiosity to witness how it evolves in this story as well. I am eagerly anticipating more of that interaction. Kaipo is an exceptional actor, and he brings David to life so convincingly. So, I’d be thrilled to see what’s next.
Tia Carrere endorsed the development of the duo, describing David as “supportive and gentle” and Nani as “driven.” The role was taken by newcomer Kaipo Dudoit for this version, while Jason Scott Lee voiced the original David. It’s exciting to see Nani receiving a more detailed background, including her surfing history. However, some fans found the alterations in Lilo and Nani’s final scene less appealing.

Maia Kealoha shares her unique perspective on why she hopes David and Nani will return for the sequel. To put it in her own words, she expresses this desire.
I believe it’s fantastic because Kaipo Dudoit is quite humorous too. My preferred moment of his performance was when he said something like, “I’ve been longing to tear into you… or rather, I’ve missed witnessing your talent.
In that scene, it was particularly amusing! I’m crossing my fingers for a deeper exploration of Nani and David’s bond in the upcoming installment. It seems the ensemble is eager to deliver even more depth from their supporting characters.

This year, the release of “Lilo & Stitch” has been the most significant in Hollywood cinema so far, and we’re eagerly anticipating their next project in the sequel. In the meantime, don’t miss out on catching “Lilo & Stitch” digitally!
