Nicola Walker’s return detective series that ‘restores faith in TV drama’ finally confirms BBC release

Nicola Walker series Annika has finally confirmed a BBC release date for its second season.

This detective black comedy centers around the character played by The Split‘s star, DI Annika Strandhed. She’s assigned to lead the Marine Homicide Unit (MHU), investigating murders occurring along the Scottish coastline.

Approximately two years following the broadcast of season 2 on U&Alibi, it has secured a release on BBC, debuting on 2 August at 9pm on BBC One. Simultaneously, enthusiasts can stream all six episodes on iPlayer.

The show’s release schedule resembles that of Season 1, having initially aired on Alibi in 2021, and then appearing on BBC about two years afterwards.

Apart from Walker’s comeback, the latest season also introduces Doctor Who’s Varada Sethu as DS Harper Weston, while familiar faces like Jamie Sives (DS Michael McAndrews), Katie Leung (DC Blair Ferguson), and Paul McGann (Jake Strathearn) reappear.

The series also includes James Nesbitt from “Missing You,” future Academy Award-winner Daniel Kaluuya, Brit Marling known for “A Murder at the End of the World,” Bertie Carvel famed in “The Crown,” Paterson Joseph recognized for his role in “Wonka,” Jill Halfpenny best known for “Waterloo Road,” and Nick Blood, who starred in “The Day of the Jackal.

Currently, it’s announced that Walker has been added to the cast of an upcoming Disney+ comedy series named Alice and Steve, which seems quite unconventional.

The second season of “Annika” is set to debut on BBC One on August 2nd at 9:00 PM. All episodes from this season will be accessible on BBC iPlayer simultaneously on the same day.
